i always buy on release day, i don't see why some people have to wait till its cheaper, who cares that you paid more, you get it the day it comes out. whats the point of waiting.
I don't go to the theaters so i save alot there. i buy quite a few tv on dvd releases and the chances of them being cheaper is %30 chance for most titles.
just buy it the day it comes out because chances are you wont even find some titles in a few months.
this is the reason why some titles like barney miller, boy meets world, night court and alot of other titles don't get anymore seasons released, cause to many people wait.

Yes it is all the fault of you damn cheapskates. If you would just set up your payroll direct deposit to go directly to the MPAA joint bank account there would never be any problems. Barney Miller would have a GLORIOUS transfer and all the other shows would be fully-released all for your viewing pleasure in the original broadcast versions.

Of course I do, but not just DVDs, anything I buy and later find cheaper makes me regretful (unless I can do a return/rebuy with the saved receipt from the more expensive one, which unfortunately only works in B&M stores so I am SOL for online purchases) but that's because I enjoy the hunt for the deal more than the actual items I purchase. Even though I can afford it, I like the self-satisfaction of getting the best price I can and seeing I paid way more than I could have usually wounds me deeply.

Yes. It used to happen all the time when I would pre-order stuff online. Even though the prices were well below retail, a year later they cost one-third or one-fourth of what I paid. I rarely buy stuff when it first comes out anymore. I have so many unwatched, I usually just rent new releases, then buy them used later if I really want to own them.

I have 186 unwatched movies. There are only a handful of movies that I watch as soon as I get them, and in most cases, if I bought them on release day I wouldn't get around to watching them until their price drops under $10.

And the reason I have 186 unwatched DVDs is because I do wait, so I can afford even more.

Kind of, I did buy Nightmare Before Christmas before it was released (the special edition). I found it early I wanted it badly so I paid $29.99 for that. There have been a few others that kind of sucked.

Only when I sell them a month down the line for near half of what I payed for them.

Me either. Almost all of mine were aquired through CH DVD club or purchased used or traded for (except gifts, or course).

Only on certain blind buys will I have some regret. But if it's on a DVD I'm really dying to see, it's usually worth the extra money just to watch it on the first day it's out.

But with something like that, you just never know if it will go out of print. I've done things like waiting to buy a release only to see it go out of print before the price could ever go down.

I think some people are mistaking first week sale prices vs the actual full retail price the studio set. Plenty of dvds that are on sale $14.99 release week have a full MSRP of $25+.

So no I've rarely bought a dvd for the full MSRP. The only ones I can think of are two Criterion releases(Straw Dogs, Naked Lunch) and one risky blind buy(a $20 Fulci film), that turned out too suck royally.

Everything else has been bought at the lowest release week price I can find, or months/years later when the price is even lower. Of course looking at what I paid on release week and what most dvds go for today. It does make me want to wait it out more than ever.

In fact I've already started to do that beginning in January. I skipped a few new releases I really wanted. And will patiently wait until I consider the price more reasonable. Since the first release sale prices have been pretty lousy in stores lately. Also the limited shelf space has made it easier to hold off on purchasing.

I had the chance to buy the new Re-animator SE today for $26, but skipped it. Since it should hopefully be $20 or less on release week or online.

Deepdiscount.com has shafted me the last three times I've preorded a boxset.

Yes and no, I bought They Live online for $15 about 6 months ago, then all of the sudden its at walmart for $3.88.

I don't mind paying prices like that for movies I really like, but it sucks to see it in store for less than half what you paid haha.

The number of times I've bought a DVD at full price, I could count on one hand. The few times I did, there was a good reason behind having to go that route: it was a movie I really wanted and there were no other options.

So, no, I've never regretted it.

Well, some people are on budgets. And some people are aware of what they spend, or better said - what they save, and don't mind waiting.

Other then the american beaty cyberrebate ($169 or so) great film but the price grrr
First dvds brought were from Suncoast or Media play back in 1999 but never paid more then 19.99 plus tax could not bring myself to pay 29.99 for a movie
----what annoys me is that i had the internet but didn't bother to look up dvds at the time if i had could have been in on some great deals


nowadays i wait until a dvd (unless its a disney like i did get peter pan last week)is at most $10 but then its like well soon it will be $7.50 then $5 plenty to watch while i wait anyway

for tv shows epsecially wb and fox releases wait until the price hits $20 or lower
unless the show has a chance of not getting all seasons released in which case buy within the first couple months to show support. i preordered murphy brown and night court. But current shows like O.C. and Smallville are going to get released anyway

Nope. As long as I get it for my library....whoever gets it to me fastest and with the best service....will get my business...regardless of price. Full price....BFD.

I don't buy too many new movies these days because of this very reason. I was at Target tonight and saw they had the first four seasons of Sienfeld for $17.99. I think I picked them up for about $40. Sigh.

My only regret: paying nearly $40 for a non-anamorphic version of Armageddon: Criterion I'm somewhat ashamed to admit this several years later...

The only consolation I have is that it still can't be found for too terribly cheap.

I never buy DVDs full price anymore. And I haven't done in years. 'More' is better than 'now', I think.

Buying on release day is often not paying full price. You can usually find a sale going on somewhere... especially for a popular movie.

Nah, I don't buy most of my DVDs at full price anyway. If I do pay full price, then it's because I think it's worth it.
