They announce a release date for Beckett about once a year, and it never comes.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Commentary by O'Toole? Please tell me Sony got him to record one for Lawrence of Arabia! Otherwise, they're fools!

Anyway, I've never seen Becket (its unavailability on DVD is probably a pretty good excuse) but I've been hearing a lot about it, especially with all these O'Toole retrospective pieces timed for Oscar. So I'd like to check it out.

This one's probably for real (I was actually expecting this) since it's just finishing a one-week theatrical engagement here in NYC in what was described as a restored print.

Yes, there had been mention of the film being restored about a year back or so...I assumed the same. Its probably worth the wait. What a great movie...

Holy Tapdancing Christ!!

FINALLY!!!!

Record everything with O'Toole that he has the patience to sit down for. I hope he's around another 20 years but he's starting to get frail.

I caught the last screening on Thursday night at the film forum. The print looked spectacular -- clean of dirt, dust, scratches. They have done one hell of a job on the film. There was a hair in the gate in a couple shots towards the end (I believe when Becket is speaking with the Pope if memory serves), but other than that... wow. I hope MPI puts this out on HD DVD and/or Blu-ray as well.

I concur. I don't usually get too worked up over covers, but this one is breathtaking. Peter O'Toole is a movie god.

I received this film from Netflix today, and it's just my luck that it stops playing about 15 minutes in. A look at the DVD surface shows a ring of what looks like scuff marks. Since I'm certainly the first one to receive this particular disc, I assume it's a manufacturing error.
