I got it in Oct. 2005 at WalMart for $4.88.

I'd only double dip for a dramatic improvement in video/audio and substantial features.

I sold my 15 or so sealed copies from Walmart plus I picked up several other copies long after the Walmart thing. Was fun while it lasted!

Great news. I never did open the one I got from CH back in '05. Now is a good a time as any to dump it on eBay, assuming there is still some decent demand.

Hard to tell. I'd say just the box, really. Of course there have been DVDs like Ace Ventura: Pet Detective where they dropped a scene we'd all become accustomed to seeing in the home video version and it made some people want to hang on to what they had (of course actually having that film in widescreen was more important to many, like myself). Since Fletch already has an anamorphic widescreen transfer, if they dick around with it by adding scenes that slow down the film or dropping stuff the director just doesn't like anymore, that would make a very good case for keeping the original release.

The bottom line is that you'll just have to balance how much you'll lose if you wait until the SE is released to sell off your original DVD with how much you'll have to pay to get another copy of the original if the SE turns out to be awful.

Personally, I don't think I paid more than $9.99 or so for my copy, so I'm not letting it go until the SE is in my hands, I've watched it, and have also checked for comments about alterations here in the forum. Even then, I'll still be keeping the box from the original (or at least the chapter insert), unless they wise up and keep the original poster art and title artwork for the SE.

Damn, I had only picked up 1 copy from Wal-Mart and sold it sealed on ebay last year and only got about $45.

I'll likely get this new one, since I never got to see my previous DVD.

I bought a bunch of Fletch's too, made a great deal of dough. Good times...

I prefer the cover of the old one. Too bad I didn't keep it.

Chevy said in an EW interview, I think, that this was his favorite of his movies, so he'll probably do commentary or an interview.

Meritocracy??? You mean a system in which only really good movies command high prices? I think you mean "thanks, capitalism", because even though this is a good movie, people are only paying high prices because you can't get it anymore. You might also want to thank the ignorance of your bidders, since anyone who's heard of the impending release of the SE wouldn't be wasting money on the original DVD now. If anything, they'd wait until people upgraded and traded in their originals at used DVD shops.

seems pretty skimpy on the extras, but with a lenticular cover and being that i just sold mine, which was originally free, for over $50.00 at Amazon i will buy this one with giddy happiness.

Bleh. Stuff like "Favorite Fletch Moments" is gonna suck, and a commentary woulda been nice, but whatever. You take what you can get, I guess...

It's really wierd, but Universal has never understood this movie. Every single piece of marketing material for Fletch emphasized the funny disguises. The trailer, TV spost, poster, etc. Now this DVD has a 15 minute featurette on the disguises. The disguises are the least funny aspect of the film and are of barely any significance to the story. It's a classic example of a studio not "getting" it's own material. Thank God the audience was able to figure it our for themselves.

What the hell? Chevy Chase said this was his favorite film. This would have been a much better DVD if it had an interview and commentary by him. I was expecting him to be on the featurette, but knowing that he's not my interest in this DVD has dropped significantly. Good thing it's probably, as someone said, $10.

Doesn't sound as bad as The Jerk but still sounds like a pretty shitty excuse for an SE.

It's amusing that there seems to be some people on eBay still trying to command a premium price for Fletch.

It's a fav of mine, but I'm passing on the new release. I got the old one back at WM when it appeared for $4.88. Don't see anything substantial enough to double dip.

The extras are the worst I've ever seen but there is a substantial improvement in picture quality contrary to popular belief.

This kind of makes me want to go back and buy the 1st release again. Like most people here, I sold mine on ebay months ago. I think I'm most dissapointed in the missing commentary by Chevy Chase. If thier was a commentary track on this dvd it would have gone over better with fans of the film.
