Help me determine if my Silence of the Lambs CC DVD is authentic
I purchased a Silence of the Lambs Criterion Collection DVD from this very forum a couple months ago. The UPC barcode matched, the ISBN number matched, spine number matched, etc. so I was pretty convinced it was legit. Only problem was that the bottom of the disc was a little mucky - some scratches and a couple smudges. My attempts at cleaning didn't really make it any better.
So I set out to purchase a sealed copy. I found one on eBay that was sealed, with a Special Edition sticker, and the security seal over the top of the DVD, and the seller assured me it was legit. I paid about $50, so it wasn't so cheap as to be suspicious. I received it today and the packaging all looks real legit - identical in every descernable way to my previously purchased SofL CC DVD. The disc, however, is a little different - and that worries me.
The one I purchased from this forum has a silver ring around the hole in the middle of the disc, with no text on the top. On the bottom, there's quite a lot of text, including an inverted CC1530DVD L1, IFPI 1157 (once normal, once inverted), two barcodes, and two instances of some stylized inverted text that I can't really read.
The new sealed one I just purchased has a slightly larger silver ring, this time with text on the top - CMCA L807 7982 CC15301 000930-14Z. On the bottom, it has CMCA L810 7982 CC15300 T00930-14 Y (once normal, once inverted), and two barcodes. That's not that unusual, I figure just a different revision - but the big thing that's worrying me is the complete lack of any IFPI text.
If anyone could help me confirm whether this was authentic or not, I'd really appreciate it. The IFPI information in particular is bothering me, so information of Criterion releases without IFPI info, or SofL versions without it in particular, would really ease my mind. Thanks.

i sold alot of mine off but both robocop and lambs dont have the usual Nimbus style text that most other criterions of that age have. if it was sealed it should have had a silver special edition sticker on the wrap as well as the security sticker on the case.
think it should be CMCA L810 7982 CC15300 T00930-14 Y
i think the only bootlegs were naff ones with chinese writing on the cover. you'd probably experience playback problems too with a boot.

Special Edition
See Back For Details
And there was the security sticker under the shrinkwrap that had a barcode, the Criterion Collection DVD, and the name of the movie.
And one of the numbers on the bottom of the disc matches the code you gave, and there's the 2nd code as listed in my original post. There's no chinese character on the front.

From: Right now, my location is DVDTalk, but then again, you should already know that, shouldn't you?
Hmm, mine does have IFPI L157 (that's L157, not 1157 like the original poster indicates) and I am absolutely certain that mine is legit. I was with my wife when she purchased it at retail as a gift for me back in the '90s before it went OOP.

You would have been better off taking the original disc into a game exchange or game stop or whatever is around and getting the disc resurfaces for like 3 bucks
