James Bond 1-Disc Ultimate Edition Single Releases 02.06.07

dvd empire has them listed for 02.06.07 at 14.99 retail. 10.49 preorder it seems. For those who didn't want the box sets. covers look identical to whats inside the box set, though I suspect they will be full size keep cases instead of slim packs. Hopefully by the time they get to the next batch, From Russia With Love will work for everyone.

For Your Eyes Only
Goldfinger
Goldeneye
Liscense To Kill
The Spy WHo Loved Me
Thunderball

Are these indeed 2-disc releases? Reports were saying they were only single disc reissues (without the bonus discs).

EDIT: Looking at the cover art, they appear to be missing the "2-Disc Ultimate Edition" label at the bottom of the versions from the boxes.

Digital Bits had Fox and MGM confirm that these are indeed going to be single disc releases, so you might want to change the title of the thread. Certainly got my hopes up high...

Yeah, most likely 1-disc versions.
Weird choice of release order so far too (compared to boxset release order). Perhaps more dates will be announced soon.
For 2/6/07:
1 title from Boxset #1
3 titles from Boxset #2
2 titles from Boxset #3
0 titles from Boxset #4

DDD has them as well, for $9.58.

i thought vol2 was the weakest, with 1 and 4 being the strongest..luckily, all mine work, and in the future if one craps out, i can buy a single one for a decent price

So these new releases will be missing the special features.

Why do I need to buy these newer discs then?

Is this another attempt to make people buy the sets?

in the thread about the problems with the set, FRWL was cited the most times by people as not working, skipping, etc

its more of a throw the fans of only certain movies a bone, while still making them have to buy the box sets if they want the extra goods

I don't understand why is so difficult to release the movies individually in their 2-disc form. They seem to be doing that in the UK, why not here?

If all they are going to do is put out half of what is included in the box set and say "Here, quit yer bitchin", then I'll live with my older discs for awhile longer.

I have the old box sets of these and someday will upgrade to high definition. My favorite are the Dalton flicks so I'll pick up License to Kill and The Living Daylights when released because the transfers seem to be a substantial improvement over the old ones. The other ones... I just don't care that much about them as I once did.

This is great news for people who aren't really Bond fans, myself included, but want to collect only a certain few of the titles.

I would like to have a few of the films but I do not want to buy the sets because of the way they are arranged and the fact that they are a little overpriced IMO. While I like features and would rather enjoy having 2 disc versions; I'll take a one disc version. I guess having the movie without features is better than not having the film at all. I would assume that it will just be the first disc repackaged by itself with the new transfer and all.

It's my understanding that MGM handled the release (transfers, extras, menus, etc.) independently of Sony and Fox distributed them. I don't think Sony has any involvement with the first 20 Bond flicks.

That's right, they did, by extensively re-mastering the DVDs using the best process and people available and putting out a box set at 1/2 the price of the previous one.

I'm glad they stepped up and made it so the set owners have something over the guys who only want one or two.

My only issue with the new box sets is the thin cases...I HATE them. I would have been happy to buy the 2 DVD sets individually just to have the regular size cases. Nuts!

I like to collect OOP DVDs. I think the quality of the older OOP MGM Bond SE is quite good, there are plenty of extras to boot. Can someone comment on their impressions of how these new editions compare compare to the old ones. There are only a few more that I want to add to my collection and I was planning on getting the OOP MGMs, however if they release these single-movie editions and the quality is much improved, I'll consider getting these.

the picture quality is much better on the new disc, though not without some critics claiming certain films to be slightly misframed.

the old disc were good though, and if you can find them on the cheap, you might as well grab them

Most of those old OOP Bond DVDs are available at Columbia House.
