Re: Tom & Jerry Spotlight Collection: Vol.1 REPLACEMENT PROGRAM READY TO GO!

I went out to look for the spotlight collections tonight. And of all places, Barnes And Nobles had them. They are $19.99 each, however they have a buy 2 get 1 free. So i got all 3 for $40 which equals out to a little over $13 and change each. So for anyone who's looking for these. Check out barnes and nobles for this deal. I never thought i see the day i see a good deal in the dvd section there. But behold.

That's great - can you tell us if they corrected the problems?

Re: Tom & Jerry Spotlight Collection: Vol.1 REPLACEMENT PROGRAM READY TO GO!

I got all three of my Tom And Jerry discs replaced but I never sent the "incorrect" DVDs back. After all there is nothing wrong with them they were just edited. So now I have two different versions of some of the shorts. But even if the discs were defective I still would not have sent them back after receiving my replacement discs. I have two or three other titles that had replacement programs and I still have the defective discs in there original packaging along side the replacement disc in a thin case.

Re: Tom & Jerry Spotlight Collection: Vol.1 REPLACEMENT PROGRAM READY TO GO!

If the corrected issues are out there is there anyway to distinguish them from the older releases?

A note on the back of the DVD case, or issuance date, or whatever?

Places like Amazon or whoever could have old stock so it would be nice to know.

James :)

a place like Barnes & Nobels and stuff really only carry new stuff, hardly anything kept "on the shelf." I just wish the guy who just recently picked up from Barnes & Nobels would confirm that they're Correct or Not.

I haven't really haven't a chance to check them out yet, but i will tonight. Since it's been a long time since i watched these shorts. Is there a specfic short from vol 1 for me to check to easily verify it, because if something is missing i may not realize it's missing. Post a youtube video, and i can easily compare it side by side.

However i have a feeling for Vol 2, I may have edited discs. I have not even opened it yet, but i was checking reviews from amazon and this is what one person has to say about the cover of vol. 2. Can anyone verify this if this statement is correct.

As a last note: BEWARE!! I want to make sure that those who want to get the re-released, unedited version of Vol. 2, actually get their hands on the RIGHT one! On the cover face of the 'corrected' version, Tom's head is towards the bottom left of the cover, as he tries to swipe at Jerry; on most (if not, ALL) of the edited versions sold both on-line and in some dusty store bins, Tom's head is towards the top right of the cover face as Jerry escapes with a piece of cheese. Hope that helps!)

Re: Tom & Jerry Spotlight Collection: Vol.1 REPLACEMENT PROGRAM READY TO GO!

Vol.II is the one to look out for. Like, Mammy's voice, if Corrected, should be Lillian Randolph. If you're not familiar with the "voice," you may not know if you're duped (in need of Correction). Polka-Dot Puss was one that was messed up. So was Part-Time Pal.

But not badly edited. I mean, you do get to see and hear everything - including the "Hold The Onions" line - but the end is a little "out of focus," is all. I say we got lucky to get what we got, all told.

Re: Tom & Jerry Spotlight Collection: Vol.1 REPLACEMENT PROGRAM READY TO GO!

Ok, I watched The Milky Waif last night. There is a brief scene where Jerry and the baby mouse cover their face with shoe polish to fool Tom and escape. Was this edited out on the edited discs? If so, then i may have the unedited discs for Vol. 1.

Re: Tom & Jerry Spotlight Collection: Vol.1 REPLACEMENT PROGRAM READY TO GO!

repeating info on censored versions/differences...:

Volume 2 packaging appears to have been updated recently and should contain the new corrected discs. Easiest way to describe the "new" cover is Jerry is not holding a piece of cheese, and on the original "old" cover, he is. See post #87 by Rainet in this thread. http://forum.dvdtalk.com/9970497-post87.html
Note: It appears possible to also get the corrected discs in the old packaging too, I got lucky with mine.

Tom & Jerry Spotlight Collection Volume 1:

Bad disc #1:
The .VOBS are dated 8/25/04.
Good disc #1:
The .VOBS are dated 12/30/06.

Tom & Jerry Spotlight Collection Volume 2:

Bad disc #1:
The .VOBS are dated 9/6/2005.
Bad disc #2:
The .VOBS are dated 9/6/2005, 9/8/2005, and 9/13/2005.

Good disc #1:
The .VOBS are dated 12/7/2005.
Good disc #2:
The .VOBS are dated 12/7/2005.

For people that don't know, this is just a reminder of what the "issues" were on the sets:
Volume 1
Quote:
Disc 1
"The Milky Waif" - Jerry and Nibbles using shoe polish to disguise as black mice.
"The Truce Hurts" - A meat truck splashes mud on Spike, Tom, and Jerry, leaving them in blackface.
"The Little Orphan" - Tom gets burnt by a candle and turned into a 'pickaninny'.
Volume 2
Quote:
There are three cartoons where Mammy's voice appears to be in a different acoustic from the rest of the cartoon, and she sounds like a voice actor imitating the original. These are "The Lonesome Mouse" on disc 1, and "Saturday Evening Puss" and "Nit-Witty Kitty," both on disc 2. Apparently these "redubbed" prints are from a British Tom and Jerry DVD -- Tom and Jerry are huge in England -- where Mammy's voice was redubbed to give her a marginally less exaggerated accent.

=================
Vol.3
missing 2: "Mouse Cleaning" and "Casanova Cat" and contains an edited version of His Mouse Friday.

^haha funny ;)

Correction! (thanks to LK for pointing out already posted info in this thread, sorry I missed that before)

The box HAS changed :)
Easiest way to describe the "new" cover is Jerry is not holding a piece of cheese, and on the original "old" cover, he is.

And the replacement program is still be going on, so they can be corrected if you get the old discs. Minimal effort.

Yes, they will still replace disc #1 of Vol. 1 and both discs for Vol. 2.

They will NOT replace any discs for Vol. 3. The woman I talked to about a month ago said that, "Vol. 3 is fine the way it is." I didn't try to convince her otherwise about the exclusion of Casanova Cat and Mouse Cleaning and the edited version of His Mouse Friday. I figured that the issues surrounding Vol. 3 wasn't her call.

The new cover for Vol.2 looks strangely almost exactly like the back cover of the inside digipak from Vol.1!

Yes, I noticed that, too.

BTW, did you get a 4"x6" "The 'Tail' of The Tom Collectible Litho Cel" showing Jerry drying himself off with Tom's tail after taking a milk bath in the "old" Vol. 2 digipak? I would like to know if this card came in the "newer/updated" Vol. 2 digipaks, or not.

^Not to my knowledge. I traded for the set which was unwatched, and it had not gone through the replacement process. The trader doesn't remember anything like that in the package and he always leaves all the extras inside. I also traded with the same guy for Vol.1 which the discs needed replacing.

VOBs are the files you see on the disc if you put the disc into the DVD-ROM drive on your computer, and browse the disc like you would any other data disk on your computer.

^ For TLK, about the Litho Cel.

Maybe the new packages don't have the cel in it, only the original ones? Only reason I can think mine didn't have it was because it wasn't bought early in its release, probably somewhere in the middle after the new discs were pressed, but before the new packages were made, which is how I got a "combo" release.

No. So far, they are not going to replace disc 1 from Volume 3, because of the zooming of the one scene from His Mouse Friday which keeps the child cannibal mostly out of the frame (the capture below is unedited):
