Godard's 'A Bout De Souffle' (Breathless) - new remaster?
Anyone seen the new 2005 edition of 'Breathless'? The back cover claims "digital restoration", but no other description.
Even DVDBeaver hasn't bothered to cover this (as far as I can tell) and I'd hate to re-re-rebuy this AGAIN if it's just a repackaging (my life would be so much easier if Criterion would just re-acquire the rights).

Actually I believe that very soon there will be a new SE released by Studio Canal-Optimum in the UK. No official news as of yet but I would think that there will be one shortly. I would wait!

The region 1 fox/lorber edition is crap compared to the Region 2 Kinowelt you can either go with that one or wait for a special edition. Too bad Criterion still hasn't gotten their hands on it.

I held on to my old Criterion laser because I heard nothing but bad things about the Fox Lorber edition. I guess that's still the one to keep, huh?

...Not much to wonder about, it is coming as I said above, they just need to make it official. And as I noted earlier the statement should be up shortly. What I could tell you at this point is that Studio Canal-Optimum are porting all of the black French releases in a 7DVD set which is set to hit UK shops on March 5th. This should be a definite improvement over the lacking, current UK disc. So, like I said, wait until March.
Finally, I noted in the International forum...you really have to be very, very excited about what happened in the UK. The merger between the two companies will basically solve a ton of problems for English speakers as early indications are that Studio Canal are basically going to upload every major catalog title that they think would generate $$ (look how quickly they decided to port for the UK market the French print of L'appartement, or the Bunuels...).
Once again, the UK lucked out BIG!!
Ok,Ciao,

ps
Here's your direct link for the new set!

also, what is on the ported french disc of L'appartment ?
I realise the transfer was superior, but is it a remaster of that print or just the same transfer ? And what extras are there on that disc ?

Well, I don't work for the company so I won't know for sure but the asnwer as of right now would be NO! A Dutch forum reported the news first so there you have it. What i believe is most certain at this point is that the new release of A Bout..is a fact.
(as to L'appartement...the main advantage is the transfer, extras are slim).

i forgot to mention that i had emailed criterion about breathless during summer and they confirmed it will be released in 2007
Dear Edgar,
We do in fact hold the rights to release Breathless. While the film is not on our current release schedule, we hope to have a finished product available some time next year.
I hope this helps, and please feel free to contact us with any future questions or concerns.
Best,

According to the May Criterion Newsletter, this is coming. DVDBeaver is mentioning that it will be released in August.
