newbie here- predator/oldboy question

Hi, this is my first post here. I just love spending money on dvd's and was really glad to finaly find a site that follows the releases with such quality.

Here's my question. I just saw on amazon.co.uk that the predator head special edition is on pre-release. will this be available as region 1, or should i go for the region 2 version? sorry if this was on allready.

also, i want to get he vengeance trilogy box set with the oldboy hammer. also see it available only in region 2. should i wait?

thanks
v

Well, since you love spending money on DVDs, why wait!!!?

Realistically, I highly doubt you'll get limited releases such as these in region 1. It just doesn't happen. You will be able to find the films contained within each set that you mentioned, but limited releases with busts or a really spectacular packaging set .. I doubt it.

Japanese releases (aka i, Robot with Sonny head, Alien Quad with alien head) eventually got released in the UK, but no where else. Most of the elaborate releases usually end up in Japan first or in the form of questionable knock offs from Taiwan. I have some from Japan and 1 from Taiwan just for kicks. The Taiwan set is the Incredibles with a Jack-Jack doll. I like it - sue me. Anyway, Korea also releases some very nice limited editions as well - whereas most of the efforts are placed into the customized packaging itself. Some are very beautiful to display. R1 has very few historically, but I wish they would pursue that market more heavily. Instead most R1 limited releases are in a cheap cardboard slipcover and at times, at least they'll pass off a tin ..

Perhaps someone else will have another take on this, but I for one am seriously doubtful of seeing a Predator bust or a limited special packaging edition of Chan-wook Park's trilogy on this side of the planet any time soon.

BTW - if you're into importing or are just simply in search of what's out there, check these guys out: http://www.theimportforums.com I'm sure you'll find out everything that you need to know about limited edition releases around the world - including the states. Just make sure you bring your wallet ......
