I'm still laughing at the "$70 for 2 movies" comment. As others have pointed out, there are a lot more than 2 movies in this set, although I guess if a movie doesn't get great reviews, it might as well not exist. Aside from that though... $70?? Do people really pay full retail? -eek-

I still think its a good price for 14 DVDs.

Brent L 11-27-06 12:21 AM

I'm excited about for two reasons:

1) It's Superman!

2) It only cost me $47.75!

JACOB 11-27-06 02:10 AM

the boxset includes a documentary called you will believe.. its an new interview with cast and crew about the making of all four movies.. its on the box set only.

Care to let us look at your DVD collection? Also you seem to have forgotten about Superman Returns, but I suppose that was crap too and shouldn't count as a movie.

I hope you don't own the Alien Quad... that one also had some poorly reviewed movies and even less discs for the money.

GuessWho 11-27-06 11:51 AM

I was going to buy individual releases of:

Superman
Superman II
Superman II: The Donner Cut
Superman Returns

but the box is cheaper. I'm getting III and IV only by default.

Full retail is actually $99.98

Overpriced? You get Superman: DC, Superman: theatrical cut, S2, S2: Donner cut, III, IV, Returns, S v. molemen, all of the cartoons remastered, and more bonus material than you can shake a stick at.

If you don't like 3 and 4, fine. But even if you throw those 2 discs away, I fail to see how this set is anything other than an amazing bargain. I could pick nits about a few things (the audio on the first film, deleted scenes from various films that weren't included as a supplement, the lack of a HD ultimate set), but this is pretty freaking comprehensive.

If you like the films, how could you NOT be excited about this set?

Most unbelievably retarded thread ever!!

$48 shipped for 7 movies (two cuts of I and II each, III, IV, Returns), two full length documentaries, production journals plus an insane amount of extras...

Yeah. What a rip-off...

The Monkees 11-27-06 01:56 PM

I'm getting it because it's cheaper to buy that then it is to buy the 4 disc Superman, Superman II DE, Superman II Richard Donner Cut, 2 disc Superman Returns and the 2 documentaries. Which one of them I'm not even sure is available separately.

Agreed. That's exactly what I thought when I read the beginning of this thread.

Can someone clue me in on "Superman II: The Donner Cut"? What is it? Is the movie that different than what we currently know as "Superman II"?

To make a long story short, Richard Donner shot Superman I and II back to back. However, he was fired after shooting almost all of Superman II after having problems with the Salkinds. The Salkinds hired Richard Lester to finish the movie and he ended up cutting out/re-shooting alot of scenes Donner shot.

Bluelitespecial 11-27-06 02:23 PM

I am not a big superman fan, but I did enjoy Superman returns. But The Batman anthology set from last year was one of best box sets of 2005, and if its on the same level of that of course people will be excited about it.

DieselsDen 11-27-06 02:24 PM

Quite simply, some people (like me) love the first two movie enough to want to collect the series and all the supplements with it. Also, items like The Richard Donner Cut is something NO fan could have imagined being available back in the pre-internet, pre-digital entertainment days.

Also, back in the days when VHS tape reigned supreme, and laserdisc was just a niche medium for film buffs, the first SUPERMAN alone cost over $70 retail for a non hi-fi, 240 lines of resolution, truncated and sped up version of the movie (in order for it to fit on a 120 minute tape). The non-letterboxed laserdisc to SUPERMAN II was a bargain at $29.99. So the retail price for the Collection is quite reasonable.

TheMovieman 11-27-06 02:25 PM

And remember, it's the two-disc edition of Superman Returns which costs around $20-24... I'm only paying $45 and the cost of Returns and the original Superman gets it in that range.

BuddyRevell 11-27-06 02:46 PM

One of the best scenes out of all the Superman movies.
