I don't know, Universal has been really good about upgrading films for re-issues. All Quiet is a pretty bad transfer, especially compared to the R2 disc judging from the screencaps I've seen. The current DVD only has production notes and a trailer. It's a pity it's not getting a full special edition since it's one of the finest war films, not to mention outstanding for an early sound film. However, I'll be fine with just a new transfer.

Actually, Universal has been one of the worst companies when doing re-releases of films. Yeah, they did something good with To Kill a Mockingbird, Double Indemnity, The Sting and Deer Hunter, but for most of their catalog, they make huge mistakes over and over again. Take the recent 21 grams re-release, which only added a small featurette and it was basically the same as the first release. Ditto for Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Dazed and Confused, The Hitckcock re-releases, and we can go on and on.

A big  for ARABIAN NIGHTS - one of the great "fantasy" films of all time, and a Maria Montez classic.

The Heiress (1949) is one of Wyler's best films! I can't wait for that DVD.

Except for The Man Who Knew Too Much, all of the films had improved a/v. Especially Rear Window, Vertigo, and Psycho.

I agree, it's a highly underappreciated movie. I was blown away when I saw it a few years ago, and that one viewing is enough to get me to buy the DVD as soon as it is released.

Hear, hear. For some time I dreaded Universal releases, but they've been doing some fine work recently, particularly in respect to the standard of their restorations and transfers. There have been a few grumbles round the net - some folks bizarrely saying Universal should have put out more 'high profile' titles (in what way are these not 'high profie'?) There's nothing at all wrong with re-releases providing that said transfers are of a much higher standard.

Fingers crossed; looking forward to all these.

well the new Holiday Inn disc seemed to be an upgrade, which gives me hope for this entire batch
