Da Vinci Code Giftset cryptex?
Hey all,
I'm trying to get a feel for what people think the cryptex included in the Da Vinci Code DVD giftset will turn out to be, or if anyone knows for sure. It says it's a "working replica" of the one in the movie. Do you think it will be a fully working cryptex with a changeable password, or since its a replica, just the password from the book and movie. Or just a bunch of wheels that spin and a drawer that slides out without one? Cryptexes seem to be expensive, and this giftset can be got for $30 more than the 2-disc (or less). Opinions appreciated, thanks!

Found this link after some luck and a lot of searching:
http://www.hidefdvd.com/usa/item/CTR...tset,-The.html
The details section includes:
Cryptex
- Authentic Working Replica of the Crytex Featured in The Da Vinci Code
- Discover the Truth Sweepstakes Hidden Inside the Cryptex is Your Clue... and Your Chance to Win a Trip to Europe and Other Great Treasures
- After Unlocking the Cryptex, Learn How to Customize Your Own Secret Code!
So if that's right, it's a real customizable cryptex, probably not high-end enough to keep the Opus Dei out, but I'll pick it up tomorrow from DDD anyway.

I one of the cryptexs during the google/da vinci code challenge they had. If it is the same thing that they are giving away with the DVDs it is pretty damn cool. Very solid with a working code that you have to put in for it to open.
Some pics from when I first got it:

We have about 4-6 of those giftsets and yea they come with that cryptexs. I was very surprised when i came upon it in the new shipment. Only bad thing is that it's retailing for $60 dollars and wat disappointed me was that it only contains the 2-disc version of the movie. Not the exclusive 3 disc that target is sellin as well. I'll probably hold on off on this seeing as how the price is a little steep.

I saw the Giftset at Best Buy this morning, WOW is the cryptex small! There is no way it is worth 45 bucks more for this set. I went to Target and got the 3 disk set for 22.99, much more value in this set! I can live without the toy!

Paid $41.00 and change for the giftset @DDD and got the 'target bonus disc' for 4.99 shipped @ the history channel store. So for about $45.00 I got the best of both offers IMO. Since CC has the 2 disc version for $13.00 and change, seems like target is really making out on there deal, unless you think the foil box is worth it! Nah-

I bought both the Target set for the History Channel Documentary/Special box and the Gift Set for the journal and cryptex. The journal was nice but the cryptex was nicer, with a heavy and solid feel and quite neat.

Any pictures of the journal or cryptex? Is it worth it?

Saw the cryptex the other day and it is really tiny. I thought it was going to be about the size of a soda can, but it was more like an aspirin bottle... maybe about three inches long and one inch in diameter.

As far as I know (and I might be wrong), the only additions to the gift set were the cryptex and the journal.

ahha! heres the link to the .pdf that describes the sets contents:
http://www.sonypictures.com/homevide...e_8pg_Bklt.pdf
although i now see the caveat "*Note All Giftset Items May Vary By Country. "
i guess the region 1 folk got screwed again

i would still appreciate input fom others as to the content of your giftset and if it included the holy grail "scene composite"

What is the password? Apple & Grail don't seem to work. (got the set for $5 at BL)

It's "truth." If you're looking for the instructions, try looking in the replica journal. That's where mine is, though I could have placed it there when I first opened the set.
Also, to change password, use a phillips screwdriver to loosen the two screws and remove the cylinder from the Cryptex. Remove the ring sets one by one. Separate the alphabet ring from he notched metal ring. Set your desired letter to each ring set. (For example, to set a new password of "hello" place the alphabet ring onto the notched metal ring with the "h" lined up to the slot on the inside of the metal ring.
Repeat last step until all ring sets are set with the appropriate letters. Place the ring sets one by one back onto the cylinder in the order of letters of your new password. The slot on each metal ring should be in line with the slotted edge of the cylinder. Cover the cylinder and tighten the two screws. Insert the key, you may have to adjust the ring sets slightly for a smoother entry. You cannot open your cryptex or change the code without knowing your password.

Had one of these in my backpack while traveling a few years ago. Tsa was curious about it and pulled it out to examine it. I laughed and explained what it was, they were not amused.
