365 DVDs I have never seen but will in 2007

Ok, my goal for 2007. I plan to watch 1 movie everyday for 365 days in 2007 (or if the days are less/more. is it a lip year?)
Anyway, I will try to watch movies I have planned to see but never have or movies I should have seen by haven't. Like "The Maltese Falcon" or "Citizen Kane".
I am asking people to post movies they thing I should see. I am not talking main streem movies like "Star Wars" or anything most people have seen. Looking for great movies that probally were over looked at it's release. Also any good movie (even main streem) before 1980. Its time I look back at some classic.
thanks

Well hell. Just check out AFI's several top 100 lists and you'll find plenty of options.

I have done that to get some and I do love Dog Day. But hoping to find some other "missed" movies that doesn't pop up on "best movies" list.
I have heard good things about Straw Dogs and Billitt is in my MUST SEE list.

One way to tackle this would be to watch as many movies as possible by some of the greatest directors, such as Kurosawa, Hitchcock, Wilder, Welles, Lang, Scorsese, Altman, Ford, Coppola, Cassavetes, etc. You may want to watch their movies in order, to see how they developed their styles. Just an idea.

Sounds like a great project. Have fun.

Here's a website with an interesting top 1,000 list, based on critics, filmmakers, and film scholars' picks. You might get some ideas looking through it.

Dogfight - one of my favorite River Phoenix movies.
The Stoned Age - like Dazed and Confused, but more goofy humor.

Check the film noir threads. That will really help you meet your goal.

0rac -

It would help to have a link to your DVD collection, so we can know where your tastes lie, and more practically, what you've seen. Sounds like a cool project (and kind of tough to stick to), and I'd like to see the final list/plan when you finish compiling it. I'll put up a few recommendations with imdb links either later tonight or tomorrow.

cheers,

-the Jesus

I don't know what you like, a movie I really love that will probably never show up any of these lists is Barcelona. It is pretty talky, but the things they say I find very amusing.

This is how I started with classical/silent films...

D.W. Griffith's The Birth of a Nation, Intolerance and Broken Blossoms. German Expressionism with F.W. Murnau's Nosferatu, The Last Laugh and Faust. Then the very The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. At that point I was so interested in German films I went further with Fritz Lang's Metropolis and M. Then others like Pandora's Box (the stunning Louise Brooks) and F.W. Murnau's American debut of Sunrise.

Some time during that period I also watched some film-noir starting with Double Indemnity which lead to me to seek more of Billy Wilder's works like Sunset Blvd. Other film-noir like The Maltese Falcon and The Third Man - And so on with new genres like Kurosawa and Frank Capra.

All that within two weeks period time and I tell you my brain was cookie-dough! So I took some time off reading about each director and film and I realized that it is better to think about each film for a day or so before rushing into a new one. So personally I wouldn't recommend on watching a movie everyday but take it slowly.
