No people, i'm not kidding. Davisdvd.com is reporting that Anchor Bay will re-release the Wicker Man (1973) with both American and European cuts. This coincides with the release of the remake starring Nicolas Cage. More info here:

I have the wooden box version of this, is the European cut the same as the extended cut? It looks like it will be.

Whew...I'm glad I decided not to either a) import the Region 2 release,or b) get the recent "US cut" release.

I was considering buying the wood box off ebay or half and I was so close to buying the latest release, but I guess I'll just make it easy on myself and pick up the new(est) version.

It figures... I just bought the 2-disc R2 DVD from an eBay seller on Friday. Wonderful timing. It looks like the Christopher Lee interview from the R2 disc isn't present on this new release, so maybe there'll still be a reason to keep the UK discs.

In any case, you all have me to thank for this announcement thanks to my recent purchase. :-P

I'm in!

I held off on the last release, as the 99 minute cut wasn't included.

I'm going to sell my wooden box set because I have too many DVDs, and I've managed to get rid of all my early collectible packages save for this one.

Any thoughts on the price of the wood box crashing in view of this release?

I'm betting it will go down from the outraguous 60-125 i saw them going for on ebay a few months back (I was shopping for a copy at the time) to a more reasonable 20-35 like most of the other anchor bay tins that are common market on the re-issed side (evil dead 2, repo man)

Notice that the AB page does not mention the commentary. (But it looks like just ported the info from the old 1-disc release onto the page for the upcoming 2-disc.)

Since I already own the fancy wooden case edition, I won't get this one unless it comes with the commentary. Need to know more...

Is the R2 Christopher Lee interview the same one that's included as an easter egg on the R1?

I'm not real surprised but it's irritating that they did not give consumers a choice when they re-marketed the single disc. I ordered the R2 release with CD soundtrack and I already have the freaking wooden box. That will be more than enough Wicker Man for me. No more money for Anchorbay. Does anyone know if the single disc re-release was improved any image-wise? Wicker Man is catching the Evil Dead syndrome. Might want to hold out for the Boomstick edition.

Yea... I'm a R1-only guy. Just don't have the effort to go region-free.

This is curious. Davisdvd says it will contain both cuts, but AB's own website says nothing about the inclusion of the extended cut. If the extended cut is not present, that would make this release even stranger, considering it's basically the same as the last one that came out in.......August? Can't be.

Pass, the wooden box is good enough for me... I dig it. No interest in a new commentary. But...

for those who missed out on the box.

Unless, of course, these are new remasters... Then I might bite. Wait and see.

I just ordered the Wooden Box off of Ebay, so I doubt I'll be buying this. It's kind of a piss-off seeing that this is coming out, but the Wooden Box set is better, right? I spent $80 on it, so I'm not spending more money on the movie...no matter how much I like it.
