The African Queen - Amazon pre-order???

So it appears to be available for pre-order but I see asian writing on the cover and it appears to be from a studio in the UK. Can anyone shed light on this release?

Well, it's not the legit U.K. release which is from Carlton, and includes a great commentary track by Jack Cardiff - and doesn't have non-English info on the cover.

Edit: I see that there is now a second legit U.K. release, barebones, from Prism.

The Carlton release is best. Review here

In fact it looks and sounds great and I hope the 'look' and sound aren't destroyed when it finally gets a release in the US by Warner in 2012.

If I had an all-region player, I'd DEFINITELY order the Carlton release off of Ebay. I LOVE that movie.

Can someone explain it to me? Why is it being held up? This is the most glaring omission on DVD that I can think of...

no real reasoning...Paramount just hasn't released it...there pretty bad about getting classics out on dvd as of late... this is anniversary year 55...

hope it comes jam packed when it happens, but no one major (Ebert/Maltin/Casper) has reported giving any commentaries or interviews on the film....

I would love to see this on HD-DVD, but that is wishful thinking at this point.

So since the original Kong was released last year, is this perhaps the biggest catalog title not yet available on DVD?

Yes. It's the only film from the AFI top 100 great films not released on DVD. For some reason, Paramount loves giving customers shitty covers, but like to hold on big releases like the Afican Queen, 1942 and Twin Peaks Season 2.
