I've been waiting for this one to be released for a while. I'll put it right next to
X: The Unheard Music and RoadHouse.

yay on yojimbo and sanjuro, I've been wanting proper versions of those for a while.

And if there's a 3 disc andrei rubylev, I'd be all over that. Now I'm hanging for Tristana and La Notte.

I bet if you did a survey of people on the street, less than 1/10 people would have heard of those films. Come on, they're Japanese films from the 60's. People have probably heard of their American remakes, but good luck on the originals.

Fortunately, Criterion does not rely on the "people on the street" approach.

There are remakes?

Seriously, if somebody knows what a Criterion is, surely they would know that Sanjuro and Yojimbo are part of their catalog.

Shrug. I thought they were as widely known as Kurosawa's other films, like Seven Samurai, Ran, Rashomon, etc.

I'll be picking up Mouchette, Sanjuro, Yojimbo, for sure and possibly Monster and Madmen box set as well.

Hopefully they will release the following in the "near" future:

El Topo
Holy Mountain
Army of Shadows
Woman in the Dunes
Steel Helmet
La Notte
and some Rossellini films would be nice...

And if Criterion fixed up some Tarkovsky films as well - Nostalghia, I would be a happy camper.

The site's updated as "anamorphic" for Yojimbo and Sanjuro for all those who were worried.

Take a look at the new Italian disc of General Della Rovere...even the booklet is in English. The transfer WILL not be bettered by Criterion.

This being said La Notte is now due....

Ciao,

Region 4 of Yojimbo already has an Anamorphic transfer and DD 5.1 soundtrack but this looks too sweet! I may have to double dip.

I have the r4, it's an improperly converted NTSC-PAL job. Ghosting and Aliasing abound, not as bad as some other improper convesions but it's still there.

Don't tell me there's rumors o El Topo. I've been waiting to see these Jodorowsky movies and if Criterion releases them I will absolutely flip.

Guys, for those of you who've seen Atomic Submarine and other movies, are they any good? The trailers are on the Fiend Without a Face disc and they look like borefests. Am I completely wrong?

That all said, Border Radio looks interesting.

Atomic Submarine isn't exceptional but I found it enjoyable for a sci-fi movie. Granted I haven't seen it for many years but I have fond memories for this movie.

Mouchette is great Bresson - I'm glad I waited before buying the barebones Region 2 of this one.

I watched it awhile back on Monsters HD. I drifted off here & there, but it's a bit more intelligent than a lot of the other similar products that were being made around that time.

I'll probably end up buying it just so Criterion can relese more of this type
