The reviews were mostly negative but I'm looking forward to this release.

Well, I bought the DVD and was fairly impressed with the presentation along with the additional scenes, the making of and the trailer.

In regards to the actual movie, nothing impressive besides the visual as the acting and wire-fu was annoying. At least Cecilia Cheung was nice to look at...

I reviewed the Hong Kong DVD of the original Chinese theatrical cut and thought the movie was pretty awful. Apparently the American release chops out a half hour or so. On the one hand, the movie was bloated and could use some streamlining, but on the other hand the story is incredibly plot-heavy and confusing enough at the full length. I can't imagine it staying coherent at a shorter length.

With this movie it is best to not worry about the plot so much as focus on the nice visuals. Now it would be awesome if they could some how release his first movie Yellow Earth on dvd.
