One thing you know for sure is it can't look any worse than the original Artisan DVD of the film.

So was the Ultimate Edition a good release in terms of the transfer? I never picked it up since I heard how crappy the first two releases of the film where.

And is the 'directors/extended' cut any good or worthless? I'm glad the previous release contains both versions just in case the new cut is disappointing.

Total Recall is getting the same treatment. (Oct. 24). I am really tired of this.

maybe it'll fix the UE's problem with the frame with the hole in it.

These are really lame, IMO. Basically, just one final (desperate) attempt to convince people to buy again before switching to HD. I'd advise anyone considering these to put the money aside and save up for an HD player.

The Ultimate Edition's transfer is incredibly grainy and washed out. It also retains the damages seen in the non-anamorphic version.

The Directors Cut adds some good scenes:
From what I remember:

Isn't there an HD-DVD available now for the Stargate: Extended Cut?

I still own the dual-layer Artisan release with a hopeless transfer (but better artwork IMO) and I bought the 2-disc set which I was quite happy with. I don't know how much they can improve on it unless this is a whole new transfer.

Oh, for some reason when I see a Hershey's Fifth Avenue bar I always think of James Spader's character in the film.
