Region One DVD specs for 'The Descent' (12/26) - ??
The search option really didn't help me find what I was looking forward - I thought there was a prior thread about this. Have final specs been announced for the region one edition - are there two seperate cuts of the film or is the original ending being presented as a supplement?

The Widescreen will have the original UK cut
The Fullscreen will have the American cut, which is just the last minute cut off.
It will be missing the DTS track from the UK disc, but retains the extras.
There will be an extra interview with Neil Marshall not on the UK disc

just noted that High Def Digest has a little blurb:
Lionsgate to Unleash 'The Descent' on Blu-ray
Due in stores day-and-date with the standard DVD release on December 26, the $25 million-grossing sleeper will be featured in a new 99-minute Original Unrated Cut.
I didn't know you could use both "new" and "original" together in this context.

I have to admit I did rent the UK DVD edition and did not see this for it's US theatrical run, but I agree with you bullwinkle this movie kicked... I must have jumped at least three times, (and I rarely do that). Too bad the domestic DVD does not have the slammin' DTS soundmix... I wish Lionsgate would release both BluRay and HD-DVD. (oh well)

Looks like the uncut vesion might be a PAL-NTSC port as the running times are the same I read. Get ready for ghosting artifacts! Just in time for Halloween! I have the PAL 2 disc set and it looks fab fully utilizing the added res. that PAL has over NTSC. If you are region free and your display can handle native PAL, that's the way to go....

same I believe as the new "unrated" disc. Since PAL is sped up by 4% due to the film being transferred at 25fps instead of 24, the same material should be about 3 or so minutes longer at NTSC if it were transferred correctly. If the specs are identical then it means they probably just used the PAL master and converted it to NTSC instead of making a new NTSC master. So it would still be sped up by 4% from the actual running time and will have PAL-NTSC conversion artifacts which are not pretty....
Or the info. might be wrong...

False advertising! Still, it does suck that the dts track didn't port over frrom the UK R2 ... however, I was rather impressed with the last "DD 5.1 alone" atmospheric horror flick I picked up (Silent Hill). But an open, airy, echoing, cave-dwelling flick could REALLY benefit from that extra bass range.

Hey Guys,
I got a copy of "the descent" (original uncut) dvd around new years and haven't gotten around to watching it till now. I noticed that at chapter 18 at 3:57 the picture freezes and then starts up again around 6:00. I am using a Sony DVP-S7700. Has anyone else encountered this problem? I am not sure how to go about getting a replacement.
