Six Feet Under Season 5
Could someone who has the r1 release of this please post some episode runtimes, say the first 4-5 episodes ?
I'm in Australia and the local R4 release is much cheaper, but HBO shows have a notorious reputation as appearing as NTSC-PAL transfers in R4.
One way to check is obviously to compare runtimes, the r4 ones should be 2-3 min shorter.
So if someone could help out, that'd be much appreciated.

I think most if not all R4 DVDs are shorter than their R1 counterpart because of the whole PAL speedup thing, so I don't think HBO is the one to blame for this.

but thats exactly what I was trying to find out. If they're shorter, PAL speed up is there like you said, and therefore they have been propely converted.
But some seasons like sopranos season 4, six feet under seasons 1-3 have the exact same runtime as the r1 ntsc versions. This results in various things like ghosting and liaising and lack of sharpness as they have not been properly converted.
