A fairly good week in terms of quantity, but I'm not all that enthused about the things I'll be adding to my collection.
* Greatest American Hero: Do I need all three seasons of this show? It's fine, a relic of my childhood and has the greatest theme song ever recorded, but it's an awful lot of William Katt for one bookshelf. Nevertheless, the packaging is awesome, and it comes with cape! I'll bite.
* Humphrey Bogart - The Signature Collection, Vol. 2: This is the only thing that I MUST have. A double dip for Maltese Falcon, which is only fair since the version currently available is lacking in any substantial extras. And this is one of Bogart's best movies. The vol 1 set doesn't seem to contain anything that hasn't already been available, though.
* Medium: The Complete Second Season: My wife and I watched all of the first season together, and enjoyed it, but were astounded by what a horrible, hostile, self-absorbed woman Patricia Arquette portrays in this show. She never hesitates to bite her well-meaning husbands head off for the slightest, most innocent remark. What's worse is that apparently it's based on a real woman. With the burden of psychic powers, being a little high strung is certainly understandable. With the full knowledge that the woman this character is based on is most certainly a fraud, her behavior is doubly obnoxious.
Still, in for a penny, in for a pound. We still like the show, and keep hoping the writers and Patricia will lighten up a little.
* Penn & Teller: Bullshit - Complete Third Season: I loved the first and second season. This season is where the show took a bad turn. Ideally, Bullshit should expose obvious hoaxsters and liars, like the woman that MEDIUM is based on and the Moon Landing conspiracy. It's at it's best when it's taking on Feng Shui and Baby Einstein. This season kind of takes on political issues, like the Boy Scouts, and it starts to preach rather than expose. It's still funny and informative, but I hope it doesn't become Michael Moore. We've already got him. I want to see UFOlogy debunked, etc.
That's it for me.
