Cinema Paradiso: 2-disc CE & 3-disc LE -- 11/7/06

From DavisDVD:

The Weinstein Company and Genius Entertainment will release the beloved Cinema Paradiso: Collector's Edition on November 7th. The new two-disc set arrives with both the domestic and extended cuts of the film presented in 1.66:1 anamorphic widescreen, Italian Dolby Digital 5.1 and with English subtitles. Bonus materials will include an audio commentary with Italian film expert Millicent Marcus and director Giuseppe Tornatore, "Love In The Time Of Cinema: Celebrating A Classic" documentary and the Cinema Paradiso-themed episode of Food Network's "Easy Entertaining With Michael Chiarello." Retail is $24.99.

Also available is the Cinema Paradiso: Limited Collector's Edition boxed set which will add composer Ennio Morricone's soundtrack CD, Cinema Paradiso-inspired recipes from Food Network chefs, collectible lobby cards and theatrical one sheet reproductions. Retail for this will be $39.99.
I would assume this is very similar to the R2 collector's edition that never materialized earlier this year. Personally, I'd upgrade simply to be rid of the flipper on the previous edition, but the 3-disc sound very nice and I may go that route depending on the actual pricing. The Food Network extras are a bit odd, but whatever.

Wow, that Food Network stuff sounds like a spoof. Who would want that?

Yeah... not seemingly worth much. I am glad to see this release is happening though. I have been waiting to rewatch this since I saw it in the movie theater. I want to see those extended cuts!

This is one case where I prefer the theatrical cut. While nice to have, I felt the added scenes detracted from the theatrical release.

I picked up the 4-disc R4 yesterday. According to the back, it's region free if anybody wants it now.

Do you have a link to this? I'm only seeing a 2-disc and 3-disc listed on EzyDVD (both quite bare in terms of features).

I think I might have to buy the 3-disc edition, since I don't own any previous editions, and this, in my mind, is a fantastic film with one truly great soundtrack.

I love the movie. And I don't own it, so it might be cool.

The specs must have been changed at some stage as this is the same release. The doco just has it's own disc now although I'm not sure why as it's only 52 mins long. The covers are almost identical except instead of '3 Disc Collector's Edition' it has '4 Disc Collectors Edition' across the top. The discs are as follows:

Disc 1:
Director's Cut Version (170 min)
Profiles and Awards
Theatrical Trailer

Disc 2:
Original Theatrical Version (120 min)
Scenes from the Director's cut

Disc 3:
Giuseppe Tornatore: A Dream of Sicily - The Life & Dream of Giuseppe Tornatore (52 min)

Disc 4:
Ennio Morricone soundtrack

More could have been done with this release but I'm just happy to have the two cuts.

The extended edition killed the last fourth of the film for me, anyone else?
Theatrical is much better

The movie was too ridiculously oversentimental. It was like watching a Ron Howardd film with subtitles.

Thanks for the info, Fincher Fan. I think I'd rather have the commentary on the R1 instead of the doc on that R4 set, so I'll hold off until the November release.

didn't mind the extended cut, but agreed it did change the feel of certain parts of the ending (when the character had to go home). filled in the blanks in areas that was probably better left out.

Yes, the soundtrack is inside the keepcase.
