Warner stops with English subs on TV-series?
Anybody knows if we will never see English subs on their series box sets (R1) anymore? All of my latest purchases (Smallville season 5, Supernatural and Veronica Mars season 2) are without English subs. I hope Warner will stop this nonsense. For me it is better to follow with subs beceause I am not English, but I guess there will be a lot of people with hearing problems who are dissapointed as well. Let's hope the new season of Gilmore Girls will have English subs (they talk fast :-) But I doubt it.

No English subtitles on season 6 of The West Wing either. I suppose most won't notice or care but for me this is a seriously shitty trend. Thanks a lot Warner. I guess I'll pass on S2 of Veronica Mars. Thanks OP for the warning.

I love Subtitles too- my wife is a tiny bit hard of hearing and I just got used to subtitles. Even if you can hear fine it's hard not to miss bits of conversation in a show and subs help. I bought the first season of Medium as the specs on Amazon states it has English Subs. It did not. I almost didn't buy Veronica Mars S2 because of the lack of subs. And I also have trouble accessing CC. I guess you may have to turn sound off completely to access CC and I don;t want to do that - We like to hear what they're saying but just use subs as a kind of "back up". I don't get why Warner or any other companies wouldn't have subs - I almost kind of expect it now.

I wonder why Warner stopped with the English subs. Doesn't seem all that complicated putting it on the dvd's. And I don't think it's a space issue either.

They probably felt it was redundant. If the discs are intended for Region 1, and Region 1 requires closed-captioning decoders in their TV sets, they probably think it's a waste of time and effort to include the same data twice.
I'm not saying I support the decision, but I think that's what happened.

I have a projector for display so closed captioning is not an option for me. Subtitles really make a diference for me on some DVDs. I hope the lack of subtitles doesn't continue.

And yes, subtitles cost enough to hit the bottom line.

Cost or not, English subtitles should be on the discs.

English subtitles (or subtitles in whatever is the same language that is being spoken) exist just to show a printed version of what's being said- the assumption is that you can hear, but somehow can't understand the spoken words but you can understand them printed. Closed-captions detail everything of importance on the soundtrack, such as song lyrics and sound effects- they are meant for people who can't hear the soundtrack at all.

My comprehension is better when I can see and hear what they are saying.
Therefore I keep my captioning on, though there are several problems with it.
My tv is a 55" Mitsubishi, it got burn in from CC scrolling on local news.
With DVD's it's another story. I use progressive scan so my closed captioning can't read the discs. It can only read dvd's in interlaced mode. I obviously play dvd's with subtitles then. So it sucks when they don't have subtitles.
