Question about SW:TPM DVD.

I could have sworn in the theater, when the visceroys speak, they speak alien with English subtitles. I'm watching the DVD for the first time in years, and they are speaking English. Also I remember the Gungan leader having a more throaty sound than the tsk tsk tsk tsk he now has. I've played around with the audio streams and it's no difference. Help? Thanks!

No, the Neimodians always spoke that way and when the movie was first released there was a minor controversey that suggested that they were offensive Asian stereotypes.

As far as I know the voice of Boss Nass is exactly as it was theatrically on the DVD, too.

There are changes made to "The Phantom Menace" but not in the two cases you're wondering about.

Your memories are wrong.

The controversy over the Neimoidians was silly to me, I thought they sounded like a few different accents.

The Nemodians (Viceroy) always spoke english. Sebulba and Watto were the only characters in the movie that spoke something else.

The Gungan leader always sounded the same.

I believe the Gungan leader is voiced by Brian Blessed...the guy who played Hawkman in 1980's Flash Gordon.

In the "Phantom Edit" bootleg, the Nemodians, Jar Jar, and a few other characters were supposedly given alien dialects and better written dialog via subtitles.

I saw TPM in the theater and remember sort of liking it. Does that count?

Lump me in the crazy category (but not racist) but I thought the Nemodeans were definitely Asian and Jar-Jar was Black/Jamaican

Ok, another one: When Jar Jar steps on Banta Pooh I was sure he mentioned it was Banta pooh, not just "oohh icky icky goo," something like "ugh Banta Pooh."

No, you're remembering wrong. You're probably thinking of when Sebulba's podracer crashes and he yells "poodoo!" which is obviously the Huttese equivilent of "shit!"

You're remembering this wrong as well. Not to mention that it would be silly for Jar-Jar to say "Bantha poo", since he would have absolutely no clue what a Bantha was...
