I've got an extra if anybody is having difficulting in getting it. Has the bonus disc sticker on the package. Picked it up for a friend who was out of town yesterday, he went this afternoon and they still had some.
|
I got mine with the bonus Battlestar Galactica disc----beggars can't be choosers, but the BG disc is NOT anamorphic, even though it's listed that it is. Still, it's a nice summary of the story so far in the series.

Awesome that they included trailers on this....50's Sci Fi films are famous for a special look/feel for their trailers.....you can hear Orson Welles on the Iincredible Shrinking Man trailer
|
My local Best Buy had a ton of copies... they also had a ton of Star Wars tins...
|
How are the transfers?
|
I have only watched the Incredible shrinking man...its still plenty scuffed at points, but the best I have seen it.

I really think Universal is missing out on these. The Shrinking man is worthy of a 2 disc SE by itself. or at least add a 4th disc on 50's SCI-FI reflection.. Something more than just bare bones. I would have liked to see some interviews with Grant Williams, John Agar, etc..
But such as it is, you can't beat the price! |

The remake is going to be directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans. :yack: What a f**king joke, The Wayans should stop making movies. |

my BG bonus DVD is up for trade if anyone is interested, shoot me a PM.

Just saw the copy my friend snagged of this and it looks very cool. Our local store is supposed to have one or two more copies, so I'm on my way there now to grab one quick...
|
I got mine in the mail yesterday from Best Buy. It was in a padded envelope, but it was in perfect condition. No bonus disc though.

I checked out each movie and while all the transfers looked decent, Monster on the Campus really stood out. Very sharp and clean. Not sure if it's because it's the only single movie on a disc (the other 4 share 2 discs) or if they just found a better print. Also an odd thing I noticed was the modern Universal logo was in color on the Incredible Shrinking Man while the others were in b/w. All in all.... $20 is money well spent on a very nice set of 5 sci-fi movies. |
The newer Scifi's may be prettier, have amazing special effects and superb surround sound but they dont hold a candle to these fantastic 50's thrillers.
Just proof that no matter how much you spend or who it get to do it you can never take the stink out of s**t. |
The always insightful and thorough DVD Savant has reviewed this set here:
http://www.dvdtalk.com/dvdsavant/s2109sci.html Enjoy. |
Great read. Last time I saw Monster on the Campus was when I was around 7 or 8. I'm sure it'll be cheesy when I view it, but that ridiculously looking rubber mask looked terrifying back in the day. It was part of those Saturday afternoon programs that would actually play old sci-fi movies. Whereas today, it's sci-fi series or nothing.

I got the last two at my local Best Buy, both with that bonus disc. Now I'm wondering if I should give my extra copy to a friend or wait to ebay the sucker in the event it becomes "rare, OOP, limited pressing" or whatever....
|
I have a box full of DVDs I bought with that in mind, most worth less than I paid I reckon.

Me too. Anyone want to buy an autographed "Nailgun Massacre"? I could let it go for $40. |
Can we expect more old sci-fi films from Universal?
The only one I can think of is The Deadly Mantis, don't know why Universal couldn't put that on the set. Granted, it not the best big bug flick liked Them! and Tarantula but it's way better than The Begining of the End which was pretty awful. |
If this one sells enough copies, I can see them releasing a volume 2 set...
