Is Ultimate Avengers similar to Justice League Unlimited...?
Just wondering if the content of Ultimate Avengers is similar to JLU (comic book-ish, no graphic-ness or adult situations).
John stated in his review that it's based on the first six issues of the Ultimates. While I have them, I can't remember what they were about, but I remember it being slightly more "adult themed" than the MU Avengers.
Is the cartoon like that?

There were mature situations in Ultimate Avengers. It needs Parental guidance when viewd by a kid. I believed that Ultimate Avengers 1 was aired at Cartoon Network back in April 2006.

I'm not a fan of Marvel's Ulltimate Universe, but I admit that I really liked the first movie and will check out the sequel. It is low budget animation, but the story was pretty decent in the first one.

I've seen the first Ultimate Avengers a few times and I can't really say that I remember anything really offensive or Adult in content. There are heavy action sequences, but nothing that I believe is too much for a child. Heck, I've shown the movie to my 8 year old cousin when I was watching him and he seemed to enjoy it, especially when towards the end when the Hulk really comes out.

I just watched the second Ultimate Avengers movie last night. A lot more violent than the first one, plenty of deaths in it too. I'm not so sure I would call this one a "younger kids movie" like the first.

Good job I read this thread. Don't laugh, but I thought the Ultimate Avengers DVD was another DVD rechurn SE of that awful film with Uma Thurman, Ralph Fiennes and a hoplessly miscast Sean Connery...
See, I'm in the UK, and we haven't heard anything of the Avengers movies over here...
Oh well two more discs to add to the list

There's about a half-hour of extras, with a truly childish 3 minute "gag" reel filled with running jokes and fart humor. I enjoyed the sneak peeks at the Iron Man and Dr. Strange animated movies though.
The art isn't any more polished than the first one, if that's the deciding factor. It's still a step above Saturday morning animation, that's about it. A fairly agressive 5.1 mix was nice.

I give it a "rental-only" rating (it was a Netflix disc for me anyway).

I see much more mature themed stuff on regular tv Simpsons, Family Guy and South Park everyday. Best bet is to view it once by yourself and you be the judge. I thought it was pretty good, hope there is a third.

I thoroughly enjoyed Ultimate Avengers 2. I agree with the sentiment that it is pretty graphic for a mainstream cartoon and should not be recommended for little kids.

This kind of reminds me when I was a kid and I was looking through the TV Guide for shows to watch, I saw "Avengers" listed and I got excitied. I turned it on fully expecting to see a live action version of my favorite comic book. When I saw that thing with that man and that woman walking around England, I wondered what the hell is this and promptly found something else to watch.
I found Ultimate Avengers ultimately suckable. If you've read the six issue Ultimates series it is based on, you will see why. You cannot take six issues of a comic book and condense it down to 70 minutes. Too much is missing, and it really hurts the flow of the movie. So I would say Justice League Unlimited is better in the regard that they are telling new stories at least.

For people pissed off that the cartoon movie does not match the book, there is no way and no reason for Marvel to market an R-rated cartoon. They do make some racy comic stories, but overall, they are an old school/traditional/family-oriented business. They are not in the Spawn/Ninja Scroll/manga business. This is why the first Avengers animated movie is just inspired by the book, not an actual adaptation. The Ultimate Avengers Volume 1 book is more violent and controversial than any live-action R-rated superhero/comic book movie that's already been released (Blades, Punishers, Daredevil Director's Cut, V for Vendetta). For example, Ultimate Avengers Volume 1 deals with:
1. Hulk - a horny violent cannibal
2. Giant Man - physically and emotionally abusive to Wasp
3. Thor - anti-George Bush/anti-Corporations
4. Countless references to real life celebrities (they would have to get the rights, especially from Freddie Prinze Jr. whom is after Betty)
5. Iron Man - alcoholism/slowly dying body
6. Wasp - non-stop flashing of her naked body
From the above reasons, there is no way that Marvel could market this movie to kids and furthermore, if it was marketed to adults with the above reasons, it still wouldn't make much money as it would with the PG-13 rating. It would still be awesome though if they did adapt the violent/controversial-themed graphic novel.
The Ultimates is a good book, but even if the Avengers were made into a live-action movie, it's not necessary to adapt the Ultimates. There is nothing wrong with the Avengers stories of the 1960s till 1990s.
I have seen both Ultimate Avengers 1 and 2 - and they are both examples of an excellent 1980s/early 1990s Saturday morning cartoon. If you see each movie as sort of a three half-hour storyline, you know - with the TO BE CONTINUED at the end of two of the three episodes - then it can be much more appreciated. Many of the cartoons with the three episode story arch, such as in Transformers, G.I. Joe, Spiderman, Silver Surfer, X-men, were really good. That's what the Ultimate Avengers cartoon movies feel like. And for a "tv cartoon movie," the animation is excellent, especially compared to today's crap tv cartoons, such as the new G.I. Joe show, Transformers, and countless anime-type ones. The only current good cartoon with respectable animation is the Justice League one.
I wouldn't want young kids to watch both movies, but they are for kids - sure there is some blood and violence, but that's nothing new for a 7 year old american kid. If you let your kids watch Independence Day or Indiana Jones movies, then there is nothing to worry about with the Avengers flicks. It's always acceptable at any age to watch nazis or gooey aliens be killed - nazis, aliens, bugs are cinematically the most acceptable villains to get their asses kicked without getting in trouble with the censors and parents.
The movies are worth it just to see the bad-assness of Capt. America, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, Iron Man and Giant Man. They all have great moments in these two movies. I was never a huge fan of Captain America comics, since he reminded me of a goodie-two-shoes superhero, but in these movies, he's surprisingly pretty bad-ass and cool.

It started off too slowly, but the action at the end was okay.
Once I found out there are sequels planned, all the "get the team together" scenes made much more sense.

Just finished checking the Special Features of Avengers2. It seems that there were no upcoming part 3 for Ultimate Avengers.
Marvel will soon release the following animated movie on video:
- Iron Man
- Dr. Strange
I bought mine at Bestbuy ( I did a pricematch showing them the offer of Circuit City )
