I'll have my first two Criterions Sept. 5. Brazil, and Seven Samurai.

Interested in:

- Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
- Time Bandits
- The Life of Brian
- For All Man Kind
- Traffic
- The Rock
- Armageddon
- Solyaris
- Ran
- Great Adaptations:
Great Expectations
Oliver Twist
Lord of the Flies
The Most Dangerous Game
- Spartacus
- The Last Temptation of Christ
- Robocop
- Hard Boiled
- The Killer
- Silence of the Lambs
- The Royal Tenenbaums
- Kako, a Talking Gorilla
- The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

Question: Why does it take so much time for Criterion to re-release previously OOP CC sets?

About 85 titles.

Of the ones I don't own, they are divided pretty much evenly into titles I want, and titles I'll pass on unless they show up really really cheaply. (Fortunately, I was immunized at a very early age against the completist bug.)

In general, a Criterion title goes out of print when the owner of the rights does not renew their contract with Criterion - usually because they have plans to re-issue the titles themselves. Robocop, Silence of the Lambs, Unbearable Lightness of Being, Flesh For Frankenstein, etc.) are some examples.

In a few cases, they halted further production on a title while announcing a future upgraded release, such as Beauty and the Beast and M.

The titles that have gone are probably gone forever, as far as a Criterion edition is concerned.

An even 50... linky.

Have no idea what they're worth, nor do I care since I won't be selling any of them.

Somewhere over 100. I used to keep track religiously but now since I don't work as much I don't have extra income to spend so no point in keepin track. There's still a lot more I want to see though.

Just three: Hamlet, Ran and Lord of the Flies.

Interested in a few others, mainly favorites like In the Mood for Love, the OOP The Harder They Come and the new Yi Yi release. Haven't bought too many, however, because most of the Criterions I've seen have scant replay value. (Example: I enjoyed Rashomon, but might only watch it every few years. Not enough to warrant dropping $20+ on it. Likewise for many other titles.)

57, I believe, although more if you care to count titles in the Antoine Doniel, Bergman, and Cassavetes sets individually. I'm probably one of the few who doesn't own any Kurosawa (or Fellini or Renoir...)

http://www.dvdaficionado.com/dvds.ht...on&id=hotarubi

The Rohmer box set is on order, along with Jigoku and Sólo con tu Pareja. I've gotten pretty much all the currently available titles I want, except for the remaining Bergman discs that I'll eventually buy -- hoping for remastered Cries & Whispers and Autumn Sonata, but not holding my breath. I'd also have the Powell & Pressburger titles, but I'm pretty happy with the R2 box set that has almost all their films that Criterion's released. Do need to grab Peeping Tom and Hoffman sometime, though.

My numbers fluctuate. Right now, I've got 189 (titles are in the sig). This includes 11 Bergman, 9 Renoir, 8 Kurosawa, and 6 each Ozu & Truffaut.

I have another fifteen on my To Buy list in the coming months:

Yi Yi (Yang, Edward/2000)
A Canterbury Tale (Powell, Michael & Emeric Pressburger/1944)
Eric Rohmer's Six Moral Tales: Suzanne's Career, The Bakery Girl of Monceau, La Collectionneuse, My Night at Maud's, Claire's Knee, Love in the Afternoon (1963-1972)
Seduced and Abandoned (Germi, Pietro/1964)
Amarcord: 2-disc SE (Fellini, Federico/1974)
Brazil: 1-disc Edition (Gilliam, Terry/1985)
Seven Samurai: 3-disc SE (Kurosawa Akira/1954)
Spirit of the Beehive (Erice, Victor/1973)
Playtime: 2-disc SE (Tati, Jacques/1967)
Sólo con tu pareja (Cuaron, Alfonso/1991)
