I just read that on the ImDb message board that it is being reported from a very good source that Criterion is releasing 1492 very soon.

I have to doubt that a great deal. 1492 is Paramount, and Paramount doesn't deal with Criterion (outside of some of their older titles, a la Sullivan's Travels...?). Once again, IMDB's message boards have failed.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but you have to take almost everything in the IMDB as a grain of salt, since those boards are barely moderated, they often contain many false info. Besides that, i believe that Paramount owns the rights to the film and as of today, they haven't licensed many films to third parties.
