SE of Body Double 10/3/06

From Davisdvd:

"Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced Body Double: Special Edition for release on October 3rd. Director Brian De Palma's ode to "Vertigo" and "Rear Window" arrives with an anamorphic transfer, a Dolby Digital Surround track and the newly-produced featurettes "The Seduction," "The Set-Up," "The Mystery" and "The Controversy," all featuring new on-camera interviews with De Palma and actors Melanie Griffith, Gregg Henry and Dennis Franz. Retail will be $19.94."

Has DePalma ever done a commentary for any of his films? He always speaks eloquently in the documentaries, which makes me think he'd be a natural for them.

No he doesn't for various artistic reasons like Spielberg.

I hope the trailer and or tv spots for the film are included! Sony always drops the ball on them now,so since the bare bones dvd had the cool trailer. I hope the SE release has it also, since I plan on picking it up.

Cool. I was always close to getting the bare-bones release, but good thing I held out.

Now let's see if we can get an R1 SE of Phantom of the Paradise that Europe currently has.

This is one of Brian DePalma's best movies, next to Dressed To Kill. Body Double is too clever for it's own good.

Blowout is in dire need of a SE. I view it as DePalma's finest film.

Poor casting on the star of the movie though.

How the hell can Craig Wasson not be available for a interview?

LOL. Maybe they couldn't find him.

I've thought of buying the crappy bare-bones release for years now. I'm glad I never did. I'd buy an SE of almost any of his films.

The OP didn't state that Craig Wasson was not available. And if so, then maybe there's a possibility he declined an interview for the DVD, due to a busy schedule, or was not propositioned, even though, he played the main character. For various reasons, this is very common for DVD commentaries, and interviews.

Or Gregg Henry for that matter. Gilmore Girls got him bogged down?

All I can say is ABOUT TIME!

Frankie Goes To Hollywood video of their hit Relax would be nice in the special feature.

You guys must understand that actors, and actresses are also involved in working behind the scenes, on many projects as well, which the public don't know anything about.

Ditto. Loved this flick. I haven't revisited this in years, though. I wonder how it will hold up.

Craig Wasson fell out of window - while naked, no less - while filming GHOST STORY.

BODY DOUBLE is one of my favorite guilty pleasures. It has all of De Palma's goofiest stylistic touches: repulsively misogynistic murders, spinning cameras, overly dramatic music, cheap thrills, and sleaze.

One of my guilty pleasures as well. Just watched this a couple of weeks ago.
Although it's not mentioned, I'm assuming this is a new transfer -- doesn't the current bare-bones already have an anamorphic print on one side?

The movie was not overscored at all. I loved the soundtrack. Pino Donaggio's score, vastly enhanced the intense moments of the film, with great impaction and perfective cues.

Yes, it's 1.85.1 anamorphic widescreen.

Sorry to hear there's no commentary for this - De Palma's a natural for this format, and it would be nice to hear him analyze his work, especially the earlier, funnier films. Still, this is one of my favorite De Palma movies, and I'll be first in line, and look forward to more (re)releases.

Femme Fatale SE, anyone?

If Femme Fatale has an extended, unrated cut of the opening bathroom scene, I'm buying two copies.

Good to see the cover art now features someone who was actually in the movie.

Instead of a 'body double' like on the original poster art?

I think I'll hold onto the original disc for the trailer and cover art, but I'll pick up this edition as well even though I feel the film was the start of DePalma's decline.

I prefer the original artwork from the theatrical movie posters much better, on all DVDs covers, instead of redesigns.
