Overboard= 16x9??

Easy question: is this 16x9? It doesn't say on the outside if it is but several websites list it as being 16x9.

Yes, this is the Goldie Hawn/Kurt Russell movie. No threadcraps please. It's $6 at Best Buy this week.

It is non-anamorphic. And yes I like this movie also.

To answer the OP question, it is 16x9, but not anamorhic (enhanced for widescreen TVs).

No, 16x9 is an aspect ratio, sometimes written as 16:9 or 1.78:1. A 1.78:1 aspect ratio film can be encoded onto a DVD in a non-anamorphic letterbox state, which is what happened with many early DVDs. Hell, even larger aspect ratios like 2.35:1 can be non-anamorphic, just check the Star Wars OOT thread.

"Enhanced for 16x9 TVs" is the same as anamorphic, just different wording.

It's funny seeing Ray Combs (one year before he started hosting Family Feud) play the small part of the cop at Elk Cove Hospital. "Doc, we've got a winner."

Better off with the FF laserdisc, Goldie Hawn's thong scene on the ship is ruined in OAR.

Actually, I think it's a "PG-friendly" take in the DVD version, as there is a large black bow acting as "interference" (the bow is definitely not there in the FF cable version; I don't know which version was used theatrically.)

Funny, a few scenes later, inside her cabin with Russell, she has a second "thong-prominent" shot that's as "cheeky" (if not more) than the outdoor scene.

As to the original topic of the thread, I checked my copy (MGM 0 27616-6566-2 9) and it is definitely not anamorphic.
