Mr. Cinema 07-20-06 08:54 AM

The set will include 13 minutes of new footage added in, commentary from Jackson, 40 minutes of deleted scenes, cast gag reel...

There's also 230 new visual effects shots.

Tom Woodward 07-20-06 09:12 AM

Have you got a source for that Mr. Cinema?

Tom Woodward 07-20-06 09:43 AM

No problem, got it now - cover up here too...

Harold Wazzu 07-20-06 10:01 AM

13 minutes of addition footage plus 40(!) minutes of deleted scenes? Why weren't these put into the movie? I think based on the LOTR EE's people (myself included) expected quite a bit more additional footage added in...

Nice. 13 extra minutes sounds manageable. And the 40 minutes of deleted scenes sounds like a GOOD thing.

Geofferson 07-20-06 10:40 AM

This sounds like a solid disc -- will definitely be picking it up. :)

ceeece 07-20-06 11:08 AM

Will probably pick this up.

Because sometimes scenes are deleted for a reason. Maybe they don't fit based on other decisions that were made. Maybe they screw up the pacing. Maybe they just flat out sucked.

Sounds like a great set. I'm in.

maingon 07-20-06 11:37 AM

sweet cant wait, i was one that didnt think the movie was too long

ceeece 07-20-06 01:00 PM

I think I liked the cover of the 2-disc better than this though. I am one of the few who didn't mind a little build up to the action. My beef was not enough Kong and too much creepy crawly bugs and "people" scenes on the island.

cisman 07-20-06 01:05 PM

I was hoping for more additional extended footage myself but I'll take what I can get. It's will be cool to see the deleted footage as well.

This will go nicely with the sing disc edition I have.

Do we have confirmation on DTS yet?

bookcase3 07-20-06 01:11 PM

Titanic had a similar amount of deleted scenes, and while fascinating to watch, I think the movie was better served leaving most of them out. I trust Peter Jackson to make the right decision. I loved the film, and will anxiously wait the extended cut.

ceeece 07-20-06 01:23 PM

I felt that the editing was a little wonky on The Two Towers but the extended version bumped it up as one of my all time favorites. I am hoping this will also be the case with KK. So, I trust PJ to extend it as it should have been seen in the theater.

grim_tales 07-20-06 02:31 PM

The link is not working for me. What does the EE cover look like?

I'm happy to see it is only extended by 13 minutes. Has Jackson learned some restraint now? Sure the theatrical version is excessive and long as it is. But I'm happy to see he didn't go overboard with including all the deteled scenes added back into the film.

A 4 hour version of the film woud be unbearable and dull in my opinion. So I'm happy my greatest fears so far are not realised.

Someone brought up Titanics deleted scenes and I agree,If they were added back into the film(especially that horrible alternate ending!). The film would be absolutely destroyed and unwatchably lame. While theatrical version is a classic and paced perfectly.

More and longer does not always mean better if you care about pacing and story flow.

And the first extended Rings film put me to sleep it was so boring! I have'nt bothered watching the other two films in their entirty yet,but I think I'll go with the theatrical versions when/if I do.

I have to disagree with re: the EE cuts of the LOTR trilogy, specifically 'The Two Towers' I thought the EE was far superior to the theatrical cut. I do have to say that I agree that not all deleted footage has to be intergrated back into every Jackson film, but it's great to see additional deleted footage in supplement form for 'King Kong'. I still would like to see the the deleted scenes that were cut from FOTR, TT and ROTK just from an editorial stand point.

Shagrath 07-20-06 02:56 PM

I'm down for this set. The Jackson commentary will be great, and I always love seeing outtakes/gag reels. Hopefully this'll get a DTS-ES track as well to round things out.

Tom Woodward 07-20-06 03:18 PM

I, too, would like to see a two-hour version of this overindulgent film.

ReduxGuy 07-20-06 04:12 PM

No DTS?!?!

What the Hell?!

Dane 07-20-06 04:14 PM

This is totally ridiculous! ...at least they´ll include a VERY EXPENSIVE King Kong figurine to sit on the shelf.

I guess I'm fairly ignorant about the twists and turns this took to get made. Can someone explain what the '1996 script' is?

Josh H 07-20-06 04:17 PM

Sounds good to me, never cared one way or the other about DTS as it all sound the same to my ears and on my cheap system.

Wick 07-20-06 04:19 PM

Thanks for all of the info.

I'm looking forward to this set, because I really liked the movie and I won't mind buying another copy of it on DVD, especially if it's a different cut of the film. The artwork is incredible and it seems like the set itself is jam-packed with extras (which is nice to see.) The only thing that I'm unsure of is whether I will pay the extra FORTY dollars for a figurine. At the moment, I don't think I will, because of the fact that I'm not big on figures. However, the collector in me will want to get the best version available. Argh.
