Off the top of my head I'd guess.........

Hitchock, Herzog, and either Bergman, Ford, or Kurosawa coming in at number three.

I'll put it this way - Terrence Malick is in an eight-way tie for second place, and I don't even own all of his movies.

(Hitchcock is in 1st, btw, with a whopping four titles.)

I really wish you guys hadn't made me look. My smallish 200 or so DVD Collection is filled with great Directors from the past and present. Which Director comes out on top?

Richard Donner? (7)
Steven Speilberg (6)
Peter Jackson (5)

I think I need to start working on the Alfred Hitchcock part of my collection.

I honestly don't feel compelled to expand my Alfred Hitchcock collection merely because he's on the top of most user's lists here. My top three are my three favourite directors.

For the record, I don't feel compelled to expand my Alfred Hitchcock collection because he's on the top of most users lists here.

I feel compelled because he IS one of my top 3 favorite directors who's movies I don't happen to own on DVD for some reason.

An interesting question, as I have never really sat down and counted how many I have by what director. A quick look-through count and not counting duplicate versions:

John Waters :10
David Lynch :10
Kevin Smith :6

I have many that count in at 5, including: Sergio Leone, Stanley Kubrick, and John Woo...I just haven't gotten around to replacing everything I had on VHS yet.

I would have to do some research to be sure that Lo Wei, Yuen Wo Ping, or even Jackie Chan didn't have at least 6 and place 3rd on my list.
