Universal’s ‘Legacy Series’

I know about the upcoming Dracula, Frankenstein and Double Idemity releases. Have there been any other releases under this banner or any word on anything else upcoming..
Thank you.

To Kill A Mockingbird
Deer Hunter
The Sting

EDIT: And the 6 previous releases of the Monster films (drac, frank, black lagoon, wolf man, invis man, mummy) were branded as The Legacy Collection (not Series). So I don't know if those count or not.

I would not count those personally. Frankenstein and Dracula are getting treatment more like the excellent jobs done on To Kill A Mockingbird, Deer Hunter and The Sting. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they truely do new restorations of the films and that they get an HD DVD release for all of these Legacy films.

Is there any news on this series? I would love if they would continue on with it.

There were rumors that Psycho and Vertigo were going to recieve the Legacy treatment. The problem is that this is Universal we are talking about. Their series many times don't have any rhyme or reason. Remember those collectors editions discs at the beginning of the DVD era? Silently they dissapeared.

Imitation of Life is getting a re-release (both versions) under the Legacy banner.

I really hope the Psycho one actually happens. I had forgotten this was supposedly going to happen. Hopefully it does.

I think I read that "Too Fast, Too Furious" was getting the Legacy treatment. As someone already mentioned, this is Universal we are talking about!

Yes I was hoping for a new Psycho Legacy release. This deserves the deluxe treatment along with other Hitchcock titles.

Likewise, I would go for a Psycho: Legacy Series release.

From thedigitalbits.com:

Universal has announced several new DVDs for release on 7/8, including a new 2-disc The Mummy: Special Edition (the 1932 film - a Legacy Series release - SRP $26.98), The Mummy: 2-Disc Deluxe Edition (the 1999 film), The Mummy Returns: 2-Disc Deluxe Edition, a Van Helsing: Collector's Edition, a Jet Li's Fearless: Director's Cut and Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan: The Complete Third Season. We'll have more details on the monster titles tomorrow (they're obviously set to promote the upcoming theatrical release of The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor on 8/1).

Who the fuck asked for a new edition of Van Helsing? They STILL won't put out Phantasm II, yet Van Douching gets a new SE? Ridiculous.

My collection won't be near complete untill I get that Psycho-Legacy. It better not be rumored.

Another version of 1999's The Mummy? I thought the "Ultimate Editon" was pretty good.

I also noticed that they released a new slimmed down version of To Kill a Mockingbird minus the lobby cards/booklet (or whatever was included).

Agreed. And to add insult to injury, they wouldn't give Anchor Bay/Starz the rights to release it along with I and III as well

Anyway, not sure if this means anything, but during the last recall at work, Psycho and Rear Window were two titles that were listed as going OOP. They weren't the only Universal titles I saw (apparently, the John Hughes movies they have are going OOP as well), but since Psycho has been rumored for a while now to get a Legacy Edition release, it could be a sign that it's coming.

It'll probably be almost exactly like the Ultimate version, with probably a new "feature" about the third movie. At least I don't own Returns yet, so I'll probably end up getting that and checking out Fearless if I can get it cheap.

The new 1932 Mummy DVD should be nice, and mayb the 2 disc Mummy Returns, depending on what will be on it. As for Van Helsing, I enjoyed the movie, I'd like to see what exactly will be on this new collector's edition.

The Wolf man will most likely come out around the end of the year or early next year to promote the remake with Benecio Del Toro that is coming 2-13-09

As the basis for my screen name I am obviously a '32 Mummy fan. And even though I think this a triple dip for me, count me in. New Universal Monster doc has my name written all over it (literally and figuratively)

I believe the new Legacy series impoves over the previous Monster Legacy. I have Dracula and besides 3 new featurettes it had 2 audio commentaries.

Plus the new ones aren't on flipper discs which don't work half the time. I don't think I'd watch the sequals more than once anyways, so just the original masterpieces are all I need.
