It's pretty standard. I checked a few other DVDs of recent Universal theatrical releases -- Dave Chappelle's Block Party, Nanny McPhee, and The Producers -- and all three also have an MSRP of $29.98.

On week one, Nanny McPhee was $16.99 at Target, ...Block Party was $13.99 at Circuit City, and The Producers was $16.99 at Target and Circuit City.

I don't think there's any real cause for concern.

I've never seen this film, but I will definitely be blind-buying it, due to all of the positive reviews that I have read. I wanted to see it in theatres, but I never got the chance.

I tried searching for Gregg Henry's Mr. Pibb rant (when they escape in the car) elsewhere, but couldn't find it. This was my favorite part of the film. Does anyone happen to remember it or know where I could find a transcript online? Sorry if this is too off-topic but I thought I'd give it a shot anyway since the DVD doesn't come out until October.

Different tastes, I suppose - save the lack of detail on the text, I really like that image used for the R1 artwork.

Agreed! I think it's one of the better mainstream covers I've seen in a while. The contrast between the red and white is very nice, too. Maybe it's just the thought of what could've been the cover...

Can someone else who bought this today tell me what the actual dvd art looks like? Mine looked real cheap, just the title Slither with all the company logos and rating, etc below it. Is this normal?

No art - it just says "Slither" in big bold letters, and little bits of fine print and studio jargon around it - and yes, it's the normal look for all discs that don't have art on them. Nothing to be worried about.

Yeah, I watched it last night too. While the beginning was a bit slow, the remaining 2/3 rds was a gigantic blast of B grade campy horror fun. I really enjoyed it and plan on watching it again with the commentary. Cool little flick. Imagine a cross between Invasion of the body snatchers, Critters and Dawn of the Dead but with more humor!

I actually didn't think the movie was slow at all. I do have one huge question. How in the world did this film bomb!? It has everything. Humor, gore, scares. The script is actually much funnier than I expected. In addition to the movies you listed above, it also reminded me of the "Evil Dead" films and "The Thing".
