Can someone else who bought this today tell me what the actual dvd art looks like? Mine looked real cheap, just the title Slither with all the company logos and rating, etc below it. Is this normal?

No art - it just says "Slither" in big bold letters, and little bits of fine print and studio jargon around it - and yes, it's the normal look for all discs that don't have art on them. Nothing to be worried about.

What a great monster flick! That's 2 great horror movies in a row for me! Feast last week was fantastic and now Slither! Now this weekend Saw III, happy days are here again!

Yeah, I watched it last night too. While the beginning was a bit slow, the remaining 2/3 rds was a gigantic blast of B grade campy horror fun. I really enjoyed it and plan on watching it again with the commentary. Cool little flick. Imagine a cross between Invasion of the body snatchers, Critters and Dawn of the Dead but with more humor!

I actually didn't think the movie was slow at all. I do have one huge question. How in the world did this film bomb!? It has everything. Humor, gore, scares. The script is actually much funnier than I expected. In addition to the movies you listed above, it also reminded me of the "Evil Dead" films and "The Thing".

domino harvey 10-26-06 12:25 AM

when it was released, this movie had a 92% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and I don't mean when only five or six horror blogs chimed in, that was with all the opening weekend reviewers chiming in. how it still couldn't get business is anyone's guess

slop101 10-26-06 01:10 AM

Quality or not, I don't think a gooey, campy, comedy/horror movie has every made money at the box office - Evil Dead 2, Re-Animator and Army of Darkness didn't exactly rake in the cash at the theaters, so why should Slither have been any different?

On James Gunn's blog on MySpace, he says that the studios wanted and unrated version, but he says this version will be the only version in a VERY long time because he is satisfied with the disk, and the cut in theater was truely his cut, so its safe to say there will be no double diping for this, great fun, PICK IT UP!

Duder 10-26-06 01:25 AM

I thought the movie had plenty gore in the R-rated version. I thought it could've used a little more gratuitous nudity (I mean, if you're gonna have a half-second of it, you might as well have a little more), but that's my only criticism of it. Good, fun flick.

Saw this last night (HD DVD). It was a really fun flick. I had my doubts for the first 20 minutes or so... it definitely took it's time getting going. But the last 60+ minutes were a hoot. I was actually tense during a couple of sequences and I can't remember the last movie that did that to me.

How's the quality of the HD version picture-wise?
I've been whether the Combo HD-DVD/DVD disc was worth the extra money.
Thanks for your thoughts!

It's good. Definitely not a knock-your-socks-off transfer, but it was very sharp and detailed. The transfer did a good job of handling black levels, shadow details, etc. -- which is crucial since so much of this occurs in nighttime scenes.

I'm finding that HD transfers are pretty tough to judge, since different films are attempting to do radically different things. Do I judge this film (which is a low-budget horror/comedy) the same as Batman Begins, Corpse Bride, or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? Are they even attempting to do the same things visually? Is it a fair comparison?

Anyway, I certainly wasn't disappointed with the transfer at all. It is free from any noise or artifacts, and has a really nice, sharp, 3-dimensional quality to it. I haven't had a chance to dig into the extras yet, but I'm hoping to do that tonight.

I was a bit 'meh' during the first viewing, but it's really started to grow on me. *ewww* Extras are first rate too, with lots of fun behind the scenes antics. Obviously the crew had a lot of fun working on this flick.

And I'll definately never be able to listen to a certain crappy 70's pop tune ever again.

hERE in the Philippines, Slither was already been released... if i'm not mistaken, this was been showed on June this year... I was kinda regretting that coz i was not able to watch it on the big screen.. but pretty sure i can still watch it on the dvd... -wink-

Was in the missed it crowd and picked this up and watched this last night. Very fun flick. Didn't seem to take itself very seriously and was a lot of fun.

Glad I got this.

"I'm Bill Pardy." fun extra
