New Release for "The Apartment"?

Has anyone heard anything about this? I was reading Ebert's website and noticed he has it listed for 8/22.

Ah, thanks John. He listed it under his "Great Movies" section, so I obviously thought he was referring to the original . . .

The French WB disc is splendid, with DTS, and optional English subs (...and plenty of Monica of course). Indeed, one of the best European films from the early 90s.

Have to disagree here. But in a good way.

One of the best films. Period.

Great movie, but fluffy (which is why Hollywood showed interest in remaking it), but I'll take Bohringer (the one on the cover who looks like Binoche) over Bellucci

Fortunately that Amazon information is WRONG.

How do I know? Go to Amazon and enlarge the DVD Cover Art ... it says Widescreen right at the top.

Folks,

This is a truly under-appreciated film if there ever was one!

I recently picked up this DVD, released at the end of August by Lionsgate. The movie is a great Hitchcockian French thriller with Monica Bellucci and Vincent Cassel. It was released overseas back in 1996, but didn't come out in region 1 until recently because (I gather) the powers that be didn't want audiences to see it before the Hollywood remake, Wicker Park.

Anyway, the picture and sound on the DVD are pretty good, but I have to wonder what they were thinking with the English subtitles. This DVD uses closed captions instead of normal English subtitles. The viewer is constantly treated to subtitles like "(engine starts)" and "(rumbling, crackling)" throughout the film. I found that it really took me out of the film. I checked, and there is no additional English subtitle track with regular subtitles. Is this a gaffe, or is Lionsgate really this lazy?
