That Posiedon art is ghastly and a half.

If there's any hope, the WB will get wise and come up with something better before the 22nd.

I'd buy it if Jacinda Barrett, Mia Maestro, and/or Emmy Rossum end up topless and/or fully nude at one point.

Meanwhile, Warner Bros has officially announced the DVD and HD-DVD release of Wolfgang Petersen's Poseidon for 8/22. The DVD will be available in a 2-disc special edition in anamorphic widescreen (SRP $34.99), as well as full frame and anamorphic widescreen single-disc editions (SRP $28.98). The 2-disc edition will include the Poseidon: A Ship on a Soundstage - The Complexities of Making a Modern Adventure Movie, A Shipmate's Diary: A Film School Intern's Experiences on the Set and Poseidon: Upside Down - A Unique Set Design Chronicle documentaries, along with The History Channel's Rogue Waves special. The HD-DVD version of the film will street the same day (SRP $34.99) with the same extras.

Yeah . . . the cover art is really weak . . . the features of the 2 disker is pretty underwhelming as well . . .

I think this one is calling out to be an initial "Netflix" rental and patiently wait for the potential extended cut. Even though I haven't seen the film and it's getting some horrible reviews . . . I know I'll enjoy this because I'm a sucker for these kinda films.

I'll blind buy if there is a crazy deal . . . if not, hope for a possible extended cut down the line.

Can't believe that's the cover art that somebody approved. Looks like somebody poking fun at "The Perfect Storm" cover with a first-draft drawing. I agree on the underwhelming extras on the 2-disc version. I think I'm opting for the single-disc.

Okay, we've got an update for you on Warner's Poseidon HD-DVD street date. The title will apparently arrive on the 12/5 date as indicated on the studio's press site, and not on the 8/22 DVD street date. The delay is apparently due to Warner's desire to include more advanced interactive features on the HD-DVD version that require additional time to prepare and test.

Just saw on Home Media Retailer Magazine that the 2-disc will come with a Lenticular Cover for a limited time.

ReduxGuy 07-18-06 10:33 PM

Thank God. At least it will be bearable now.

Harold Wazzu 07-18-06 11:11 PM

Looks like it's the 2-discer for me then...will be a blind buy. I already have the original 2-disc SE and like it quite a bit.

This is the type of movie where I don't want to see an extended cut. The whole reason it was a fun movie is because it was so short.

After re-watching it last night, it would be at least interesting to see all the footage that they supposedly cut out. As I've mentioned before, DVD Talk is the only place where I've heard rumors and speculation that they trimmed out 25 minutes out of the first act prior to the ship flipping a bitch.

But exactly, the fun of the film is that the mayhem happens quick and early. It's similar to the Dawn of the Dead remake. If you can't deal with the character development, drop it all out and get to focusing early on the mayhem.

Saw this movie last night and while it has it has its good moments it was a pretty average flick. I really liked the first act when the ship flipped. Great drowning death scene by one of the main characters. The special effects were good. I can accept the far fetched aspects in the movie, characters swimming under water for minutes at a time when 90% of people in real life would drown, and eyes being exposed to salt water etc. What finally killed this movie was the ending. It was just so convenient after they evacuated the ship before the rescue party showed up.

onebyone 08-26-06 11:02 PM

Oh come on, use spoiler tags for people just getting the DVD now.

Wow, who needs to bother watching it now?

Thanks!

The next time you see a new DVD, or a movie in the theater, Don't reveal the entire plot, including the ending.

I liked the movie. Good fun and some great effects. Brutal Deaths too.

Can anyone confirm the rumor that the ship sinks at the end of TITANIC? ;)

DVD Polizei 08-27-06 11:06 AM

Goddamn it, man! Put spoiler tags on that post!

:D

Kechulater 08-27-06 11:35 AM

I probably should have used spoiler tags, but really I didn't mention the specific characters who survived or died. Everybody knows the ship flips from the previews. I guess I gave away the fact that some people survived and they didn't all die. Sorry.

rotfl

No doubt about it.

As for the film....weak popcorn flick and I have NO desire to see an extended cut. Seeing more info and background on people I'm not going to like anyway won't improve it for me. They should have left nobody alive....I love it when that happens.:D

Sabrett 08-27-06 10:36 PM

I liked it. It's definitely a good popcorn flick. I wasn't expecting to see oscar worthy performances, but I'm definitely happy I have it in my collection

LiquidSky 08-28-06 07:33 AM

I watched it this weekend. Grade: C+. That goofy kid got on my nerves (as did the kid from the original). The flirtatious exchange between the single mom and gambler dude was cringe worthy both in dialogue and performance.
