Special Editions of 80's Comedies
Has anybody heard any news about special editions of Scrooged, Three Amigos, Fletch, or Planes Trains and Automobiles? All of these films need at least a better disc than what is currently out there.

But Paramount has been doing a lot of S.E. upgrades of catalog titles lately (like the forthcoming PET SEMATARY and THE DEAD ZONE), so a S.E. of P.T.A. seems likely...

Here's hoping..although it's probably unlikely. John Hughes has made it pretty clear he wants nothing to do with his films anymore and sadly, Mr. Candy has passed. If Steve Martin does a solo commentary, I'd be happy with that!

P,T&A celebrates it's twentieth anniversary next year. Given Paramount's track record of "revisiting" their big Eighties flicks over the past couple of years, I wouldn't at all be surprised to see a new disc before next Thanksgiving. Hell, maybe even by this Thanksgiving.
And this year is the twentieth anniversary of Three Amigos, too.

With the move into the new tech starting, I'm beginning to wonder if now is the time to about give up hope for new releases of some movies and just break down and buy what's available.
For instance, I finally went ahead and bought Trading Places. Been a long time since I'd seen it unedited. Hot damn, is Jamie Lee Curtis H-O-T!
I went ahead and bought Fletch when it was available at WalMart recently.
I've got a short list of movies I've been waiting for a newer version, for either extra features, improved transfer or both. Ones I can think of now are Beetlejuice, Face Off, Logan's Run, Risky Business, Poltergeist...

I picked up The Three Amigos from Wal Mart the other day hoping that it would atleast look ok but it looked horrible. Even when I used the zoom functions on both my DVD player and TV. This movie really does need a SE.
Poltergeist is another movie that desperately needs the SE treatment.
