But I'm satisfied with that one for now.

What I'm more upset about is that I picked up the single disc x2 (which didn't have any extras) when i thought it was the two disc version because the cover looked so similar except the single disc having the widescreen label on the top front. i did pick it up in a rush but still...

Just found out that the Region 3 (2-Disc) will be getting English 6.1 DTS ES.

As per usual, Fox is attempting to fuck over their R1 customer base with an unnecessary double-dip. It looks like R2 is also getting the 2-disc version right off the bat (although I'm not sure about the 6.1 dts).

I'll definately be ordering this from another region, as cd-wow will probably have the R3 for cheaper than I can pick up the R1 in store.

Yep, that settles it! I'll just wait for the R1 SE "3.5 w/ dts" when/if it comes.

Why not go region-free and forget about waiting for the US arms of studios to finally get around to releasing things the right way? It seems as if the rest of the world gets the correct release the first time around.

I'd normally be a little upset about how companies like FOX are really keen on doing the double dip most of the time for most of the popular releases now, because they can get away with it here in Region 1... but X-Men 3 in my opinion was the weakest of the 3 films. For this reason, I'll purchase the one disc-er when it comes out and I'll be more than content with that. Tell me the double dip later on is going to get a 'better' transfer, and then I'll be steemed. But, usually double dips are just for money and not much extra work is actually involved, so I doubt this will end up being the case.

Attention NYC people, and other people that live near cities with Chinatowns:
Does anyone think it will be faster to just wait til the X-MEN DTS dvd comes to Chinatown? From past experience with Hollywood movies released on Asian DVD, it may be released two weeks earlier in Chinatown, rather than ordering it from cdwow.com...

EDIT:Is this DVD a Chinese dvd, thai dvd, or indian dvd??? I just realized there's no chinese audio, just english, thai and indian audio...is this even going to be released in Chinatowns?

Some rumors say that the dvd (or at least some editions) would have three alternate endings like this:

Spoiler:

1. Pyro returns to the school.
2. There's loud noise and Jean's grave is empty.
3. Scott wakes up in a hospital room and zaps the camera.

Some have said other countries had those scenes in theaters but I doubt those rumors are for real but man, that'd be so sweet to have.

But now I think these are the actual alternate endings that are going to be on the dvd.

Spoiler:

1. Rogue returns.
2. Logan back in Canada.
3. New school year begins

more on the possible deleted scenes.

IGN has a review of the collector ed dvd (I think).

http://dvd.ign.com/articles/729/729627p2.html

Linking to the second page since that has a bit more detail on the dvd. It says the audio offers the 6.1 DTS ES option.

I have an e-mail address for fox.. I am not sure if I am allowed to post it in public. you can e-mail me at [email protected] and I can send it to you that way.

see about getting the two disc set released here in the us.. not having to wait months or years for it.
the region 1 does include DTS.

The video quality discussed in that review also makes me want to wait for the eventual re-release. In order to get more money out of us after already releasing a one and two disc version together at release... they'll HAVE to bump up picture quality.

The review explicitly states that the copy watched was a watermarked screener and isn't representative of the version you'll find on store shelves.

Fox is absurdly paranoid about piracy, and is convinced that movie reviewers are all criminals just dying to rip them off. The DVDs they've sent to sites like this in recent months have all been plastered with "PROPERTY OF FOX. IF YOU COPY THIS, YOU'RE GOING TO PRISON! WE'RE WATCHING YOU, FILTHY SCUMBAG!" notices that scroll across the screen, and they generally squeeze the entire movie and contents of the DVD onto a single-layer DVD-R.

The disc you buy in a store will undoubtedly look better.

Good info there. Not surprised in the least. I had seen that mentioned in the review, but had assumed that FOX being FOX, would pull a stupid move like leaving the quality in a pretty 'bleh' state. FOX usually has nice DVD's as far as the quality goes but I don't count any chickens before they're hatched with FOX.

The first two X-Men films had an excellent transfer though so I guess I should have thought about that first.

anyone looked at the covers of the wide and full screen editions? maybe it's just me but I can't tell the difference between them and there doesn't seem to be a wide or full screen label anywhere on the front cover. maybe they'll update the covers before release.

Well, at least Fox got rid of the useless 5.1 track and replaced it with a well-needed DTS_ES track.

Here in Canada, Future Shop online is advertising a Steel Case as an exclusive for the 2 disc version. Even for Canada, the $35.99 price is expensive. I'm willing to bet that they will have this steel case in their B&M stores, once this movie is released and hopefully at a cheaper prize.

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...on=&langid=EN#

BTW, for those who don't know, Future Shop online does not ship to the US.

Edit - They also have another exclusive and they are calling it the "Stan Lee Collector's Edition". The movie with a 100 page comic book.
