Seems expensive for the Collector´s Edition.

FYI:
CDWOW has the Region 2 (2-Disc) listed for USD 23.95 ...no DTS either as of now, though.

I'm sure there'll be some super duper special edition box set that will have dts for all three movies plus loads of extras. Esp. with the wolverine and magneto and maybe x4 movies coming.

I picked up the first x-men movie for $10 yesterday at wal-mart. Is that dvd out of print now? I was just adding it to my dvdaf catalog and the site indicated that it was.

If it is just one disc it is. The two disc X-Men 1.5 edition isn't.

I haven't seen it but the general concensus is that it's poor compared to the first two, a la The Godfather and The Matrix trilogies. I'll probably purchase it for completion's sake and the fact that, as with the first two DVD's in the series, the picture and sound are likely to be spectacular.

I didn't think it was as good as the previous 2, but it was still a pretty darn decent flick. I don't think the Godfather analogy holds. Return of the Jedi is probably a better one, from my perspective. Not as good as the two previous (excellent) films, but a good, entertaining movie that fits in with the previous ones without making you cringe.

That being said, this DVD release is disappointing and seems to be screaming 'double-dip'. I may wait this out...

We have even more updated specs:

Available in separate 2.35:1 anamorphic and fullscreen releases, each with Dolby Digital EX & Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks, extras will include an audio commentary with director Brett Ratner and writers Zack Penn & Simon Kinberg, a second commentary with producers Avi Arad, Lauren Shuler Donner, and Ralph Winter, deleted/extended scenes (with optional commentary by Ratner, Kinberg and Penn), three alternate endings, "Inside Look: A Night at the Museum" featurette and trailers (including ones for 24: Season 5 and The Simpsons Movie). Additionally, the disc will have two menu design options: X-Men and Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.

Curiously, Fox is also releasing a UMD version d&d.

Hi-res packaging is now up as well.

So is the CE really not a 2 disc?

I am still waiting for double disc for F4, do they want me to wait on this one too!

So does Fox just expect that a lot of the joe six-pack guys will double dip on this. I mean, a lot of "informed" customers are waiting for decent releases and not double dipping and I think it would make more sense for them to release a single and double at the same time, so they could get a big spike in sales for that quarter and be more profitable.

That collector's edition looks like crap. It'll be the one disc for me. At least the spine pretty much matches the two previous X-Men DVDs (I never ended up buying 1.5). I'm kinda surprised they dropped the ball on this. True, X3 isn't as long as X2, but a two disc would've been nice, with DTS, to match 1.5 and X2. Oh well.

If they release a new version like X-Men 3.5 I'll probably pass. Didn't like this movie enough to double dip...

So the only difference between the two versions is the book? OooooohKay.
Also, pardon my ignorance, but how much of difference can there be between a Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Digital 6.1 EX track?

(Besides 1 EX )

6.1 has a center surround channel. How much of a difference it makes depends on the individual film/mix.

An extra disc, probably. DTS, maybe. But who's gonna shell out $10 extra for a comic book and a different slipcover?

EDIT: Removed hopeful dts/two-disc comment. dts is a no-go.

And to be honest, I could really take or leave the commemorative book, as I'm not a comic book reader, but the packaging for the regular edition is so bad and the packaging for the CE is so sexy that I'd have to pay extra just for that alone; with release week sales, I doubt it will remain a full $10 price differential anyway.

I'm debating picking up the CE just for the packaging as well, as the single disc cover is just damn sucky. Still seems like a rip though, especially since we're not getting anything different other than the comic and cover.

Hmm, different strokes I guess. I like that the one disc is more in line with the previous two releases with characters on the cover. Plus, that giant hand just looks ridiculous in my opinion. I think the concept was good, but the overall result just looks cheap and silly to me. Not that the standard release has great cover art, but it'll do.

EDIT: Yeah, on the standard release, the Angel character in an X-men outfit? What movie were they watching? Nice attention to detail.

I have the X-MEN: COLLECTION boxed set (with X-MEN 1.5 and X2 together) so the artwork of the X-MEN: THE LAST STAND--Collector's Edition actually matches it better.

i like the more simple ce cover too. but i still can't justify paying 10 bucks more just for it. any more info on the comic book though? i'd be surprised if it hadn't been released before since i've seen a lot of x-men books around the bookstores.

and of course, bwg is right. jp3 was FAR better than jp2.

The Digipack One disc is OOP. They have reissued a keep case version, dvd AFF either has not updated, or it has a seperate upc

The comic book is a new story written by Stan Lee, and his 3 favorite X-Men stories of all time.
