It isn't so much the threat of a full season 2 set being released later on that has me afraid to pick these up, it's the potential HD DVD release.
I have season 1 and have yet to even start on it, so i may just wait it out until it makes its way onto HD before i bother with it any further.

"Jumping the shark" would be a matter of opinion (and in mine: "not even close"), but confusing?
Spoiler:
Baltar won the election, forced the colonization, he couldn't lead effectively so they're still living in tents, then the Cylons showed up again, and Baltar barely had time to wet his pants before he surrended.
My jaw dropped from the sheer leap of faith Ron took with that ending, and certainly not near any predatory aquatic life forms.

well I meant jumping the shark in that
Spoiler:
the whole ending is gonna end up being Balter's nightmare. He'll wake up, and the show will continue in it's pre-"we chose to settle" timeline and it's just a cheap way out to end a show on a cliffhanger. boo, hiss.

No way.
Spoiler:
Baltar's way too self-obsessed to know all that about the other citizens, even subconsciously, to put together such a plausible dream/nightmare. Just because the transistion over those 6-9 months (I forget) was Baltar taking a nap on his desk, does not literally mean he's asleep. What we all saw is the real deal and I'm ready to see where we go from here.

Is that just a guess on your part? Or is there some official source that confirms it?

I highly doubt an official source would confirm something like that so far in advance of Season 3. At best, it is speculation. And if it is confirmed, I certainly don't want to know.

I guess I'm just wondering where this is coming from... is it "semi" confirmed, rumor, complete wild-ass guess? It just seems like such a stupid resolution that I can't imagine it being true.

Actually, showrunner Ron Moore is pretty involved with the BSG messageboard over at Scifi.com and has pretty much let it be known that
Spoiler:
it is not a dream

I'll try to find the source.

Edit: I can't listen to it here at work, but in the podcast for this ep
Spoiler:
Ron confirms it is not a dream
