Yep, bugs the shit out of me as well. Though from the wonderful marketer's view, why waste valuable disc space for that trailer when they can try to sell you another DVD.

aaargh, call me lame (ok..don't..heh) but what does EPK stand for?

ianholm 05-04-06 01:23 PM

EPK = Electronic Press Kit

Filmmaker 05-04-06 02:09 PM

Electronic Press Kit = (typically) 15-20 minute featurettes commissioned by a studio making a particular film designed to build viewer interest in said film, usually by offering little more than a sketchy plot outline, plenty of scenes from the said film and self-congratulatory, "pat on the back", "mutual affection" interviews with stars and crew.

I haven't seen it advertised in canada yet....has anyone heard if it will be available north of the border?

Doug Schiller 05-05-06 08:11 AM

I try to skip the dual inventory marketing gimmick every chance I get.
I made an exception for Batman Begins and King Kong due to the content.
This is another example of a DVD I would have bought if it was released as a 2 disc set only.
Now, I'll rent instead.

Smithers 05-05-06 10:49 AM

the Packaging imo is worth an extra 5 bucks but for 10 bucks more than the 1 disc? don't think so...

Since I'm not going to pay 15 bucks for the shitty 1 disc, I'll just rent it.

AvaDoodle 05-05-06 11:36 AM

The mere mention of "digi-pack" makes me cut and run on this one. I dunno, I may be a dizzy broad, but I like my keep cases and digi-packs haven't the durability I would prefer.

Here's a review of the 2-discer from DVDActive:
DVDActive review for Munich: Limited Edition

Also, it looks like Walmart is going to have some sort of bonus disc to go along with the 1-disc release (I don't know the content of the bonus disc). Still not sure which set I'll go for...the 2-disc Limited Edition or the Walmart 1-disc (with bonus disc).

tofferman 05-06-06 08:37 AM

For those who are still on the fence, DVDActive has images of the two-disc set here:

http://www.dvdactive.com/news/releases/munich.html

Being a collector of dvds, as well as a fan of great movies, the two disc is the way to go (at least for me). I also can certainly understand the negativity over the price point on this release.

Hopefully they won't be able to fall back on that lame excuse with HD-DVD/Blu-Ray.

On the link flixtime provided it's saying Munich isn't anamorphic?

Yeah, I noticed that later as well. I wouldn't worry about it at all....I think it's just a case of a little carelessness. If you look just below the anamorphic listing as "no", you will also see a listing for "color" which says "no". Plus upcomingdiscs.com reviewed the one-discer and they've indicated it is anamorphic (and in color) so that should lay to rest any doubts.

It is. I'm watching it right now,and it's definitely anamorphic.

purplechoe 05-06-06 08:41 PM

I'm going with the 2-disc myself. Good movie, and the cover art on the 2-disc is just awesome!!!

lamphorn 05-06-06 09:11 PM

What was a definite buy turned into a definite rent. And that was before this guys review. Once I found out that for 20 bucks you get nothing but the movie, and for 40(!) bucks you get what used to be considered the standard 20 buck release, I said fuck it.

I don't buy barebones movies at retail price, and I'll only go over 25 dollars for Criterion discs. This little gimmick of theirs that pretends we have no memories has got to be losing customers. I have been buying far fewer DVD's since they started doing it.

yellowbedwetter 05-06-06 11:22 PM

i was hoping the 2 disc would include some docs about the event itself, from a historical perspective, but it sounds like its all making-of type stuff, so as nice as it looks i think i'll pass on the 2disc. I may even pass on the 1 disc until its (inevitably) in one of those "2 for $20" deals at Best Buy or Circuit City a couple months down the road.

purplechoe 05-08-06 04:35 PM

It looks like the 2-disc is going to be very limited. Amazon is not taking any more orders for this dvd.

Mr. Cinema 05-08-06 04:50 PM

I hope my Best Buy gets this in tomorrow.

mcharro3 05-08-06 04:56 PM

From what 'they' tell me, the 2-disc isn't going to be available in Canada...at all!

Wow, glad I ordered it last week. Although, it does make me just the slightest bit nervous that it was pulled simply because they're going back to revamp the extras. I doubt it, but you can never be safe these days, it seems.

Wick 05-09-06 01:43 AM

If the 2-disc Limited Edition isn't going to be available in Canada, I'm going to be pissed. I usually try to get the best version of a DVD out there, so I was hoping to get it. If I have to stick with the one disc, it won't be the end of the world, but it'd be nice to be able to get the 2-disc without having to order it online.

bookcase3 05-09-06 08:33 AM

I've had to re-buy Jaws and Saving Private Ryan, so I wouldn't be surprised if there is another release later on. I'm personally going to pass on the 2-disc, and like I said in the Bargains Forum, I think your extra money would be better spent purchasing the single-disc Munich along with the documentary on the events, One Day in September.

The Valeyard 05-09-06 01:38 PM

Wal-Mart is offering one of their fluffy "bonus" discs available with the single DVD edition. Wasn't sure exactly what's on it.

FiveO 05-09-06 03:56 PM

Very good flick but I settled for the 1 disc WS edition.

Watching it now... :)
