One shot I am pretty sure I remember as a kid in the theater that was elimainated when released to video was a Snowspeeder crashing directly into the head of an AT-AT.

If these are truely the "original" versions, that should be included, but based on the source of the transfers, I'm guessing it won't be.

Anyone else remember this? I cannot find much about it, but I swear it was there in the theatrical version.

I don't remember that, and it's actually the first time I've even heard of it (and I imagine I've heard about most of the "lost" scenes over the years.)

Now they're putting the anti-piracy warnings on the discs themselves?

I don't understand why everyone here whines that it isn't anamorphic and that this is just another re-release for Lucas to make money. Then everyone sits there counting the minutes till its release.

If enough people dont buy these, Lucas will get the message and re-release a new set 3 months from now with anamorphic transfers. Even if you do buy them, he will still re-release these a few months later but atleast he wont profit on selling you crap.

Oh, and don't fall for that "available for a limited time only" bullshit.

Sure you remember it. Were you also at the screening with the Luke/Biggs scene as well.

And he ain't. Not a chance in hell I'm buying them. His next (and probably last) sell to me will be the 6 film boxed-set next year.

The articles mention that there's no evidence that the scene was even filmed, let alone in any cut of the film. The scene was in the novelization of the film, and descriptions of it appeared in newsletters and such, which is where your memory of it could've come from.

It sounds like mistaken memory. I've been a victim of it myself, remembering a scene in a film that by all accounts doesn't exist.

It seems every Q4 I quietly hope Lucas will pull a rabbbit out of his hat and do the original versions with the respect they reserve. Even when the news broke about these non-anamorphic transfers, after all the uproar was heard I still felt they could do a stealth transfer and make these right and not say anything to keep us from expecting too much out of them. I want to give George the benefit of the doubt, he just keeps letting us down.

I'm not buying, and I'm certainly not buying the "limited time only" bullshit either. I've waited this long, I can wait till he gives the originals the respect they deserve.

But I've never read the novels.

As I said, the scene was described in other materials as well. It's also possible that you're confusing it with a simlar scene from Return of the Jedi where an X-wing flies into the control center of a Star Destroyer.

Wikipedia has an exhaustive list of changes and differences between all the releases of the films, and none of them mention the scene you describe as having existed in any of them:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...pecial_Edition

Wikipedia does list the scene as a deleted scene though, along with other known ones like the wampa room:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...Strikes_Back_4

Now, there's two explanations: Either the scene existed in the original theatrical cut of the film, and hundreds of thousands of fans and viewers have subsequently forgotten it existed, along with Lucasfilm itself unable to unearth this previously included scene, or you have misremembered it. The latter explanation is the simplest and most likely.

A number of people "remember" the title "A New Hope" appearing on the 1979 re-release of Star Wars. A number of people "remember" the Biggs/Luke scenes from the original theatrical release. However, the memories of most people, and the actual facts that are available, all indicate that these scenes didn't appear in these versions of the films. Given that memory is highly suggestive and unreliable, it's very likely that what you remember is a false memory.

I think a lot of us were unwilling to believe Lucas would do something this asinine, and were holding out hope that it was a colossal misunderstanding, or that there would be an 11th hour change which would bring proper anamorphic releases.

Now that I've seen it actually marked on the packaging, I will not be buying.

On the contrary, if these fail to sell well, Lucas will say "Now do you see? I was right all along. No one wants to see the original versions, they see that the latest special editions are my true vision, and I will now personally go and destroy every available copy of the original films available on any format anywhere."

Okay, he might not say that last part, but I could see him saying everything up to "true vision".

In the end, I may buy these, because of the Star Wars completist in me, and just to have these damn things on DVD. Considering how Lucas loathes these versions, they may not end up in some ultimate box set.

I'll say it--I'm Lucas' bitch.

I'm afraid it's quite the opposite. Lucas is a whore plain and simple. If these releases weren't to sell (but they will - most Star Wars fans are blind to the problems with the "Limited Editions"), Lucas would notice and within a couple of years...cleaned up and/or anamorphic versions of the theatrical releases would adorn the shelves with labels stating "Because you demanded it" blazed across them.

Lucas putting it to the fans by saying "It's up to them" is just a scare tactic. The more "Limited Editions" sold will just make him sit back and say "I did good. No need to go any further." It's a reward for a job half-assed done.

What fashion and why did you remove my post? I only said I would be ripping the discs and I never provided links or recommend a terrorist act.

It was only a comment that I felt Lucas had robbed me for years and now I wanted something back for free.

I don't see why that's against DVDTalk rules.
