Is LADY AND THE TRAMP Going Back Into the Vault?
I just caught the tag end of a confusing commercial; it referenced the DVDs of both LADY AND THE TRAMP and BAMBI II and--if I saw it right--mentioned something about going back into the vault April 17th. Now I could give a flip about BAMBI II but I need to get LADY AND THE TRAMP for my son and I've been waiting for a good deal, but if it's going back into the vault in 3 days, I need to make a point to grab it now, price be damned. Can anyone who's seen this commercial in full fill me in on LatT's status?

They do this all the time. There should be plenty of inventory to last awhile. "Going into the vault" just means distributors can't order it after that date.... I think.
Anywho.... if this is a movie you really want, why wait for a deal that'll save you just a few bucks? Or check out some good used places to find it fairly cheap?

I think it's just Bambi II that's going back in the vault. When that came out, they said it was only going to be available for 70 days. I don't remember hearing anything about LATT.

Yep, saw that tonight as well. Mad scramble for Bambi II!
Target recently had that "Buy 2 Disneys, Get 1 Free" deal. They had plenty of stock, even with that sale going on - and still do, I'm certain (all w/ slipcovers, if that's another concern). I wouldn't worry about getting a good deal - just watch the ads for the next few weeks.

How could Lady and the Tramp be going into the vault if Aladdin, Cinderella and Bambi didn't even go in yet? Those three PEs were released before LATT.

All of those will end up the in vault eventually. Basically, they only produce a certain amount of stock, and once that sells out they won't produce anymore for 10, 20, 50, however many years.

I know, but my point was that they go back in the vault in order. They never keep out a PE for less than 70 days. Bambi II came out in Feb. and LATT came out the very very end of Feb. It was probably a commercial using Disney's Babmbi II going in the vault to advertise LATT...to confuse people and get them to run out and buy LATT which you're all doing.
Besides, the last PE to go in the vault was Lion King, and that was January '05 and some stores still have it.

If you take note...all PEs go in the vault IN ORDER. All PE's go in the vault January of whatever year it is, not April. When Bambi II was released, the date of April 18th was all ready set for it to go back in the vault. PEs do not have a certain amount made and when they sell out, that's it. It is only produced for a certain length of time, it is put in the vault in January of whatever year and then all the remaining stock sells out.
Here is proof that Bambi II was put out specifically to only have a 70 day release:

So, everyone is trying to say that LATT is randomly going in the vault on April 18th, 2006. I don't think so!

I hate this "going back to the vault" crap. Disney title always have great demand because they appeal to people of all ages. The only thing that this limited time releases bring when they are discontinued is the incredible amount of bootlegs that you see later on at ebay. i don't understand why Disney doesn't realize that this marketing gimmik comes back to bite them in the ass every time they do it.

Still cracks me up that you guys use the fake Disney-made marketing buzz phrase term "in the vault"
A message board where people refer to the company as "Di$ney" should be above using their made up lexicon.

Well, consider that the next opportunity you'll have to pick up the OOP titles will be on one of the newer HD formats that will supercede the older technology. Disney will cater to the market and release two or three different HD versions too, before the next wave of technology comes along in order to do it all again.

From UltimateDisney.com:
With the exception of the special 70-day availability window for Bambi II, it's been a while since Disney formally announced and promoted the discontinuation of prominent DVD titles. That very practice will return, however, on January 31, 2007, when Platinum Editions Bambi and Lady and the Tramp will go out of print, along with the 2006 reissue of Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp's Adventure and the upcoming 4-Disc Extended Edition and Gift Set of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.

Shit! What's that--less than two months for the extended NARNIA's release?! Okay, Buena Vista, I get the hint--I won't play around with that release!
