I'm sticking with my 2-disc DTS region 2 Japanese release. |

Now if we could see some updates on DTS-HD I would be stoked! |
I'm happy with my Five-Star which I purchased when it first came out (in 2000).
They could have at least issued an improved transfer with one of these re-releases. However, the current transfer is still pretty good even for today's standards if my memory is correct...it's been a while since I last watched it. |
I´m happy with my Double Digipack, which was released in 2003. The same as the 5-Star release. Only difference is the Digipak with slipcase, and that all the Easter Eggs have got their own seperate menu. Much better I think.

But why not put focus on titles that deserve a re-release. The Abyss, True Lies, and Broken Arrow still do not have anamorphic transfers. I seriously doubt Independence Day will be one of Fox's top selling titles this year, considering there's already about 4 versions out there and the film is 10 years old. I mean, who hasn't seen this movie?

I don't own any ID4's but might someday. Just haven't felt the need yet.
I second a lot of people's sentiments about why they need to repackage this again when there is no worthwhile edition of True Lies available. I refuse to buy the barebones True Lies, but would happily buy a special edition with some commentary. |
Looking over these #'s, I can see why ID has a few releases.
Independence Day - Domestic: $306,169,268 37.5% + Foreign: $510,800,000 62.5% = Worldwide: $816,969,268 True Lies - Domestic: $146,282,411 38.6% + Foreign: $232,600,000 61.4% = Worldwide: $378,882,411 Broken Arrow Domestic: $70,770,147 47.1% + Foreign: $79,500,000 52.9% = Worldwide: $150,270,147 The Abyss Domestic: $54,251,196 60.4% + Foreign: $35,539,051 39.6% = Worldwide: $89,790,247 But, if you were to figure the # of releases for the amount of money made... ID got a release for every $163,393,853.60 it made. That means that True Lies should have another release soon. Broken Arrow is lucky to have a release. And The Abyss should have .55 releases. I know all these movies have been out for different amounts of time (The Abyss -1989, True Lies - 1994, Broken Arrow - 1996, And Independence Day - 1996) but they all were out before DVD releases started. The funny part is, I think The Abyss has three releases! |
James Cameron doesn't want to re-release True Lies due to "politically correct" reasons.

Unless you have evidence or quotes? Then I'll believe it. |
