Who else thinks Easter Eggs Blow?
OK, if you're anything like me, you like extras on your DVDs. Honestly, I never have time to watch them but I like knowing they exist for that long away day when I have time to actually watch them. Maybe when I retire. Anyways, I constantly see postings on DVD Review about Easter Eggs found on the latest DVDs to be released. It seems like almost every DVD has some sort of Easter Egg these days. Now, I don't know about you, but I stopped believing in the Easter bunny decades ago and the novelty of finding some secret video clip on my DVD has long since worn off. If I barely have time to watch the extras, what makes you think I having the freakin time to look up which DVD's do and do not have extras and exactly how to access them? If you're gonna put the extras on the disc, put "all" of the damn extras under the special features part of the menu. And quit trying to turn our DVDs into some cut rate version of Dungeons and Dragons. We like extras yes but we're not all geeks thank you.
BTW, I'd gander that a vast majority of viewers don't even know easter eggs exist and thus mis-out.

I don't care for extras (usually) but I agree that easter eggs are kind of dumb. I hate all the point-and-click crap they've added to DVDs.. I liked it when you put the DVD in and got right to the movie. Now you've got forced trailers, dumb animated menus that take forever to navigate, etc. It's just a pain in the ass.

As much as I think that Easter Eggs are "fun" to an extent, I do have to agree with you... especially when it is some content of worth. If it's just a joke built in (Kevin Smith has done this in a dvd where he berates the viewer for being a dork and looking for Easter Eggs) then fine, but if it is something that you want to view, or would really add to the special features, no I don't like it at all. Time is important to me, and if I'm going to have the time to watch the special features, I want to be able to find them easily without doing 200 different clicks to get there.
So yes, in short I agree with you.

I don't usually bother with stuff like that.

I love easter eggs. Some of them are weak, but I still enjoy finding them. Although, I find 90% of them online first. Whenever I play a dvd, before I put it away I look in dvd profiler and online to see if there are any eggs. Not just DVD features, but actually in the movie as well. For instance, the car that is in every Sam Rami film. Never knew that before I searched online.

If you are not already aware, DVD Talk has its own database of Easter Eggs: http://www.dvdtalk.com/eggs/index.php

But I do agree that easter eggs should be novelty only. It's annoying when special features of genuine interest (like documentaries) can only be accessed via a game or whatever.

Not really into searching for easter eggs. Beyond that, I really wish they would have a "Play All" feature more often for special features. Sometimes I just want to let it run and not have to fuss with the point & click.

Slightly off topic, but I don't like cheat codes on video games. That is a rip-off when you pay 40-50 bucks for a game and can't get to everything.

I generally hate easter eggs, I've heard of maybe 1% of them are actual novelty stuff that didn't really belong on a main menu, or something like the alternate cuts of Terminator 2 that weren't supposed to officially release. That's something worth looking for.
Anything else, just put it on the menu and be done with it. I hate easter eggs, and I seldom bother looking them up and playing them on my DVDs.

The ones with the chocolate nougat center are the absolute best!
But seriously, I'm 50/50 on them. Some are great...some are frustrating as hell and a complete waste of my time. Most of the time I forget to even check for them.

I don't really care for Easter Eggs either.. I wish they'd just put them in the menus as a clickable extra feature. I don't mind so much when it's just "move the cursor over here, and this lights up" type stuff (like on the LOTR discs), although I'd rather just have it more accessible.
However, some of the eggs are just stupid to access. Check out this from the Nine Inch Nails disc:
Who has time to find this shit? Admittedly, it's good shit, but still...

Most of the eggs are available via a hidden menu on Disc Two. In order to get to it, during "Head Like A Hole" at around the 11:20 mark, hit 7 on your remote. You will then be dropped into the secret menu called "Beneath The Surface" where the following eggs appear:
-"Reptile" live performance
-Video for "The Day The World Went Away"
-ninetynine commercial
-"The Fragile" commercial
-"Things Falling Apart" commercial
-NIN and Marilyn Manson doing part of "Starfuckers" and "Beautiful People".
Some other easter eggs are as follows...
-On Disc One, while "Gave Up" is playing near the 26:58 mark, press enter on your remote. You then get a wide shot of the stage for the song.
-During the beginning of the performance of "Gave Up", hit ENTER a bunch of times. Keep hitting ENTER and you should eventually be taken to a camera's angle of the song from the crowd's point of view.

I'm not a fan of them. I'm with the people who don't like documentaries and other things I want to watch hidden. If they're stupid little things like the Spiderman one on the X-Men dvd, I don't mind.

so for the people complaining about "Easter Eggs"...you're complaining about having extra stuff on a dvd?
who cares what it is or what it entails, no matter what it is, it is still a little something else that wouldn't be there at all or just an extra that was supposed to be there, just hidden for a little effect. some are just the dvd credits, so whether it is there or not who cares (it takes what 2 seconds to play around and either find yourself or look up at DVD Talk), others can be an entire cut of a movie, like T2 Extended.
how can anything extra blow?
