Jarhead 2 Disc set OOP???

just checked two of the online retailers, Amazon and DDD and the two disc set is showing up as OOP. if that's the case, people interested in this set should jump on it while it's still in stock at other online sellers.

dsa_shea 03-11-06 09:00 AM

I have yet to see this set at any retailer. I just picked up the two disc Walk the Line but I'm really wondering if the 2 disc of Jarhead is worth it. Could ayone give a quick review of the 2 disc set?

tofferman 03-11-06 09:27 AM

I just ordered this from Tower Records for $22.99 with free shipping. This appears to be the best price online as of now.

Harold Wazzu 03-11-06 09:53 AM

Wow, dvdaficionado shows it as being DISCONTINUED as well, wow!

Fincher Fan 03-11-06 10:55 AM

If you're really concerned, I'm sure it will be available in other regions for a fraction of the price.

Mr. Cinema 03-11-06 11:04 AM

All 6 of my local Best Buys had the 2-disc in stock.

TheMovieman 03-11-06 11:34 AM

Thought about getting it for $23 at tower.com, but the movie was only OK and Netflix has the bonus disc available to rent, so I'm going that route.

already picked it up for 24.78 shipped from towerrecords.com

Wick 03-11-06 01:36 PM

I've only seen two, and those were at Blockbuster. I'm glad I picked one up.

flix1 03-11-06 04:08 PM

$22.99 shipped from Towerrecords.com was too good to pass up, considering BB's price was $32.99 and CC had it for $34.99.

waylonsmithers 03-11-06 04:36 PM

I too, didn't see it at any CC, Best buy, Wal-mart, or Target. I had someone look it up at Best buy and was told they wouldn't carry it anymore (they got 2-3 in on Tuesday).

Eric D. 03-11-06 04:40 PM

Just bought mine at Tower.com too. The Best Buy near my didn't have this on release day.

shacmasta 03-11-06 04:44 PM

Best buy only had one 2 disc set left, they had at least 50 of the single discs available. I wanted to pick up the 2 disc set but it was pretty banged up, so I passed.

Joe Canadian 03-11-06 06:46 PM

Not only was it overpriced but it goes OOP days after it is released... I'm beginning to hate the DVD industry!

PopcornTreeCt 03-11-06 08:07 PM

I got it for $22 and change at Tower as well. I think it's worth it. It's packaged nice including a photo booklet. I think it's cool that it's going OOP. Makes it a bit more collectible.

phraseturner 03-11-06 10:18 PM

Shows up as "Special Order" now @ Tower. I put my order in anyway and hoping for the best...

I have never seen the film, but I think it's just silly that days after the release date, this just goes OOP by the studio. It seems like they may have found a new way to cash in on collectible dvd sets. Just a theory.

i'm glad i picked this up quickly because i thought it was one of the better movies last year. i don't really think the studio is really pulling a fast one because unless they double dip on the two disc really quickly they're not really making more money, because less units sold means less money for them. the markup on the two disc was very high everywhere except for tower records website. be interested to see how this shakes out...

uhftv 03-12-06 02:17 AM

there was a thread a week ago about this and was closed because it was decided it was still available. Now online stores are popping up as discontinued or no longer available. I dont know why this happens. Reminds me of the recall of Ed Wood, Shawshank, Batman Begins, etc. Seems to happen more often and closer to the initial release date each time.

dvd_luver 03-12-06 11:16 AM

I was a bit out of line, I agree with you ScottsdaleSaint. That's probably what it is.

hey, no worries. it's always very frustrating when studios make dubious decisions such as these. there's really no readily apparent reason for them to take a new set out of circulation this quickly. i guess the buyer really just needs to be aware of all versions of film coming out on DVD and be on their toes as to situations like this.

just another thing i love about this forum, we seem to have a wealth of information and helpful people and that just makes dealing with stuff like this much easier.

freshticles 03-12-06 12:17 PM

There's about 6 of these at my local walmart right now

jake_spade 03-12-06 12:20 PM

I bought mine at Bestbuy. I double dipped it with the regular edition of Jarhead with Dogtag *Bestbuy Exclusive

TheMovieman 03-12-06 04:05 PM

Man, I went on Amazon where (via third party) it's now $80!!! Damn, guess I should've gotten one from Tower.com and try to sell it off there for $60 brand new, lol.

Eric D. 03-12-06 04:17 PM

I hope my Tower order ships. -pray-

calhoun07 03-12-06 11:24 PM

So why did it get pulled? Were there quality issues? Rights issues with some of the bonus material used? Any word when it will resurface?

I believe the consensus is that this similar to the Batman Begins 2-Disc that went OOP shortly after release (in fact, some people that pre-ordered from Amazon.com and ColumbiaHouse.com apparently never received their Batman Begins 2-Disc ... see other threads on DVDTalk ... Batman Begins Deluxe Edition... current release going OOP and Batman Begins Deluxe Edition - Awaiting Stock).

As far as I have read, not much in terms of reasoning behind it.

The reosoning behind the Batman Begins going OOP was cuz of the comic book. Could they be releasing jarhead sans the booklet as well?

jmj713 03-13-06 12:30 PM

There's nothing really in the booklet that would be similar to the Batman Begins comic book - it's just film quotes and shots from the film.

shtfilter 03-13-06 01:47 PM

Picked one up...

At my local Best Buy.
They had 3 in the display stand.

I did a check through websites last night and I found:
bestbuy.com and fye.com still show it in stock.

joshtown 03-13-06 01:53 PM

It just came out last week....If you look hard enough, you'll find leftovers. It's true value and availability can only be judged within a few months after it's release.

Damed 03-14-06 01:19 PM

Nice looking set, buy WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYY overpriced for a 2-discer. Going OOP or not, I'm not biting on this one.

Paul Arnette 03-22-06 02:47 PM

Does anyone know if the Jarhead 2 Disc on Amazon CA is bilingual? Also, any other known differences between it and its US counterpart?

whotony 03-22-06 03:40 PM

saw 3 on new release shelf today at local best buy.

Damed 03-22-06 03:44 PM

As far as I can tell from looking at it, the only difference is the piece of paper on the back being bilingual. The disc package itself seems identical.

They did the same thing with the War of the Worlds 2 Disc LE. Entire thing was the us version except for the bilingual slip of paper stuck to the back.

These things are everywhere around here. No one wants to pay $40 for a 2 disc DVD.

Paul Arnette 03-22-06 03:44 PM

whotony,

It is definitely a YMMV thing, as I do not have any at my local Best Buy. Of course, if you're offering to pick one up for me for cost, I wouldn't mind it at all. ;)

Damed,

Thanks a lot for the info.

and by "local" do we mean within 100 miles, cause 6 sounds like a lot.

OldBoy 03-22-06 04:55 PM

that's weird, the lowest it goes for on Amazon is $65! crazy!
