Yeah I found a used VHS of the unrated part 5 at a pawn shop after I bought the dvd set. Only two scenes were cut to avoid an X rating. But the 'force feeding' sequence suffered the worst of the two scenes cut. Since the 'punch line' of the scene is ruined since you barely see what happens.
Supposedly the nudity in the begining is slightly more explicit by a few frames or something. But I could never tell any difference. So mostly it was only the bike death and force feeding sequence that suffered gore cuts.
And having only seen the unrated version before the dvd release. I prefer that more even if it is only two scenes affected. I always loved the 'force feeding' sequence since it was pretty twisted and disturbing. Thus seeing it all hacked out in the R rated version is a huge letdown.

Oh wait,I think but am not quite sure. That the birth of Freddy sequence may have been more graphic. I think you saw a splat of blood spray out onto the doctors in the scene.
I'll have to check since it has been years before I watched either version.

New Line doesnt own friday the 13th part 6 jason lives, thats paramount. You are probably thinking of New Line's 1993 Jason Goes to Hell, that has both the rated and unrated cuts of the film on one disc.

FYI - those who are region-free should check the international forum - Amazon.uk is selling the R2 version of the entire box set for roughly US$ 15 shipped to the states.

For those who don't have the current box set, it is a huge bargain right now. Like previously stated, it can readily be found for under $40. Even though there is talk of a new set coming out, who knows if it will have the extreme (and fun) extras from the 8th disc in the new release. I found it online for 37.99, that's only about 4.75 a disc. That is a steal. Seems like yesterday I dropped 119.99 on this thing. Get it while you can. You know what's going to happen right. We are all going to be sitting around a year or so from now posting threads like "Wow, you remember that great box set they had for NOES?". DVD Talk Collector Series baby ....http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=5
Oh, I would double dip if they had something new to offer. My current box set would compliment the new one.

I saw the online uncut Gretas death scene online last year. It was pulled pretty quickly for whatever reason from an Elm Street site.
Watching the rated scene, it makes no sense. But, the uncut scene clears everything up. Plus the music was better.
Not a fan of Elm Street 5 in general, but that scene was clarified to me for the first time.

Davisdvd.com is reporting that there could be a special edition in the future for A Nightmare on Elm Street. More info included in the New World tidbit here:

6.1 seems pretty pointless since there is hardly any difference from the 5.1 I'm sure(it's not exactly a surround sound film). Meanwhile the original mono mix better be included or else!

$38.42 isn't reasonable? I remember paying damned near $100 when it first came out!

I would love if all the films were released again. The Original box set and the first season of 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' where the sole reason that I bought a DVD player in the first place, and for it's time "nightmare on elm street" was an awesome collection, but a double-dip would be very worthy, especially if they could get the unrated cuts and commentaries...

Among the bonus features New Line is preparing are audio essays with director Wes Craven and star Robert Englund; documentaries on the franchise’s origins and its legacy; a trivia challenge; and a making-of feature.
