Sound of Music Differences?

I searched on "Sound of Music" and didn't see anything on this.

There are apparently three different versions (maybe more?) of Sound of Music out there. Anybody know the differences?

"Five Star Collection" Edition, looks to have been released August 2000.
"2-Disc Special Edition", which looks like it was released October 2003.
and now, the "40th Anniversary Edition", released November 2005.

This of course does not include the single disc versions.

I have the 5-Star Edition now...is it worth "upgrading"?

I *think* the 2-disc SE is just a repackaging of the Five Star edition, but I could be mistaken...

DVDBeaver seems to indicate that the 5 star and the 2 disc SE are the same (the transfers anyway).

There is also an extensive thread on the Home Theater Forum about the new release vs. the previous ones if you want to check it out ...

Yep, the 5-Star and 2-disc are the same releases, just with different packaging. Fox did this with several 5-Star releases to fit in with their "spine numbering" system (see also: The Abyss, Fight Club, etc.). The 40th Anniversary features a slightly improved transfer and a handful of new retrospective bonus features. It's worth the purchase if you're a big fan, though most will probably want to keep both.
