"Isolated Score"...which DVD's have and what is it exactly?

I don't think I have any DVD's that have an isolated music score or at least I gave them up if I did.

So what exactly is it...just the cut of the movie with music only? Is this a cool/good way to watch a movie?

Which DVD's have?

Yes, it is usually the movie with music only, but often it is accompanied by composer commentary. If you like the score, and you like hearing from the composer, then I guess it would be a cool way to watch a movie; it's about personal preference mostly.

Here is a website that lists which DVDs have this feature: http://www.soundtrack.net/dvd/

No, but bear in mind that the composer speaks in the intervals between the musical passages, not over the music.

Bully (which I think you have watched recently) has an isolated score/music track and no commentary.

Plays all of the music except for the Eminem segment, I believe.

I love the isolated soundtrack feature. It's a very cool way to watch movies or, in my case, I play them while doing other things. If you have The Matrix, give it a try. The way the music is so closely cued to the action on the screen is pretty awesome.

Beetlejuice, Mars Attacks!, and Corpse Bride, off the top of my head.

Well, not much of an answer here but I love the music in Tron - the laserdisc version has an isolated score but unfortunately the DVD does not. So for those of you who are interested and have LD players it's worth tracking down!

I remember watching The Matrix with isolated score in my college dorm room around when it first came out. Someone asked what it was and I explained it to him. A ten minute conversation followed:

"I wouldn't want a DVD with that on it"
"Well, you can turn it off, it's a bonus feature"
"Why would you want it?"
"It's interesting, to see how the music fits with the movie"
"But that makes the disc worse"
"You can watch it normally, with the normal sound"
"Then why is it on there?"
(repeat)

To this day, I still have no idea what he was talking about. The same guy had chided me for owning Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, but had also gone on and on about how much he loved K-9 and its sequel K-911. I'm not being a movie snob but... well, yeah in this case I am being a movie snob. He was kind of a "unique" guy.

"Six-String Samurai" also has an isolated score with no composer commentary. It's not listed in the linked webpage.

Superman and The Cooler are two that I can think of off the top of my head. I wish more did - it's a neat way to have background music on.

Are there any porno discs with isolated music tracks? (Yes, I am being serious.)

The old version of The Thing (1982) had an isolated score, too bad they got rid of it on the new version.

It's a great score too, Ennio Morricone at the top of his game.
