ULTIMATE AVENGERS DVD anamorphic???

Is the new animated straight to DVD movie ULTIMATE AVENGERS anamorphic? I haven't found any reviews that indicate anything. All that is listed on the DVD back cover is that it is widescreen, but maybe it could also be anamorphic, but they aren't saying so (a la Star Wars Clone Wars Season 1).

I would be very surprised if it was.

It's anamorphic. It's also pretty much crap, having seen it.

That's too bad, but I figured as much. Thanks for saving me $10.

Marvel still spreads their licenses around way too much. They can't seem to put out quality animation.

There was rumor of doing a 2nd season DTV Spider-Man CG, but it never appeared. The first season is worth picking up on DVD.

DTV?

or MTV?

I currently own the 2 disc version and worth getting for a cheaper price.

Why don't anyone do spiderman cartoons anymore? Considering that they are taking Marvel and DC more serious on screen. Look what they done with batman TAS and now there is The Batman or Justice League. A new Spiderman cartoon would be owesome.

My opinion may be in the minority, I don't know. It's supposed to be based on The Ultimates comic, but it only takes a handful of things from the series and throws away the rest. Anything remotely provocative that was in the comic is gone here, or only faintly alluded to. And, it doesn't look any better than anything you'd see on TV. I was expecting a little better. My mistake I guess. There's a second Avengers movie this summer, then an Iron Man one in the fall, and a Dr Strange movie next year.

Yeah, this is why I'm surmising many old school comics fans will NOT like this movie. I just can't get into this new "ultimates" comics thing. I deletes all the history of the characters and muddles with everyone's 40+ year old origins and development. If you're not familiar with what we mean by "ultimates", I suggest you go to www.marvel.com and check out what they have to say about the whole thing.

Well, I did actually like the Ultimates comic for what it was, but I would have loved an animated film based on the original Avengers as well. My complaint was that it poorly "adapted" the Ultimates, replacing that story with a fairly mundane script and mediocre animation.

I LOVE the Ultimates and think it's one of the best comics currently being published (when it is published, that is).

This movie looks like crap tho. I'll probably wait for it to show up on TV.

Well, a friend of mine bought an early copy and I watched it. I tend to agree with most of the points here. The animation is mediocre-poor, and it just doesn't seem like there's enough there story/wise.

It's not all bad, but it just seems like something's missing. It seems as if the direction is what's lacking- they needed to put a little more flair into it. Maybe get someone like Genndy Tartakovsky to direct.

Mostly seemed like kiddified pap to me, like the stuff you'd see on Sat morning cartoons. JLU is way better and it's a weekly show too.

Now go read ToonZone forums and see how great it is. LOL.

OH, and yes it's anamorphic with 5.1 surround.

I went ahead and picked this up at Walmart and wanted to give you guys the heads up on the Walmart packaged bonus. They have a dvd cover sized Avengers comic book packaged with the dvd. It seems to be a better bonus than the trading cards that BB is offering.

How much with the book? The prices vary. It is on sale at BestBuy for $12.99.

With the book it might be worth buying at that price.

The set with the comic is $13.88 at my Walmart so basically $1 for the comic.

i am a big fan of the ultimates comic.

while i agree that they did strip a bunch of the dark themes and bad government intent from the story for this movie, i did enjoy the dvd a lot. its fun and a great mix of solid action and story. the special features are also quite good.

they clearly worked on fitting this film into the style and presentation of their recent live action marvel films, which was done well. i disagree with the negative reviews of some of the posters above. if you like superheroes you might want to give this movie a shot. i will be watching it again and looking forward to the sequel coming this summer!

Clearly I'm not sure where all this negative reviews are coming from. Is it as good as BTAS? No. Is at as bad as the 90's Fantastic Four? Heck no! This is a solid first feature for the Marvel DTV department.

Yeah it could have been much, MUCH worse. That having been said, it wasn't very impressive either. I bought it sight unseen (being a huge ULTIMATES comic fan) and have no desire to watch it again. Ever. A solid mediocre.

BUT... and this is a BIG BUT...

the 20-something minute "Avengers" documentary (heavily featuring but not limited to the great pairing of Kurt Busiek and George Perez) is worth the price of admission for any Avengers fan.

On my part, I thought the animation was a bit spotty. You can tell alot of it is filled in with computers, IMO too much.

I did sort of like it, but thought it was missing something, or too much was tried to be shoved into 70mins. Hopefully the next one will add more to fill in the gaps, and the animation will be a little more polished.

I watched this last night and enjoyed with my sons. It isn't great or anything, but it was entertaining. It especially picked up at the end with the fight with

I have to say that this is a good (not great) first start from Marvel. I was very surprised to see the level of violence with the Hulk fight - I can see where the PG-13 comes in. I think they will need to make future projects tighter and perhaps more in tune with the books. The major benefit of having Marvel do this (hopefully) is that rights issues would be minimized if not removed.

Finally watched this and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Worth watching once at least and I may buy the DVD for the documentary. The animation is low budget and the storyline makes no sense, but the action scenes are solid and the final battle with the big guy is well worth watching. I personally can't stand any of the Ultimate comics and basically hate the fact that the Marvel Universe I grew up loving in the 70's and 80's really no longer exists. However, I am used to the origins being changed anytime there is a new movie or series so it was a fun way to kill 71 minutes and hopefully Marvel will do a better job with future projects.
